I remember.
I remember a time when most things were lost
Under tables, in the opening between seats in a car;
I remember when I was so young,
I thought toys were the only things you could lose.
Then I slowly grew, and now memories are seen in a different light,
One where I was free then, not knowing of things,
Things like love and sadness and life and death;
Back then, when things just were.
I remember.
I remember a time when I ran around a house with a friend,
Playing tag and laughing,
And I remember my father barbecuing as dusk fell on a spring night,
While fireflies danced around us.
And I remember how I lost that friend,
And how that night finally closed in around us
Like a curtain at the end of a show,
And then it was time to go inside.
I remember.
I remember being so happy,
I do,
And I remember; I remember.
