We pulled into the parking lot of the crime scene. I saw the familiar bright yellow caution tape surrounding the area. This time, it was a home break in. The criminal was somewhere still inside, but he was hiding. The police couldn't find him. Great. We're playing hide and seek with a burglar.
I parked my motorcycle and watched as Carson pulled up in the black car. He quickly parked, and met me up by the front door.
"So, what's the plan?" He asked me. Plan? He has GOT to be kidding.
"Well.. The situation always changes once your inside. You can't really make a plan." I told him.
"Oh..." He said, obviously embarrassed.
"Just find the criminal, and if you do, take him out. There were no hostages, luckily, so don't worry about them." I said. He nodded, showing me he understood. I took a deep breath, and entered the house.
The house wasn't very big. It was a two story house. The first floor was just a kitchen, a laundry room, and a living room. Upstairs was three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. There weren't many places the man could hide... How come we can't find him?
"I'll look upstairs. You can keep looking down here." I told Carson.
"Yes ma'am." He said, winking. I rolled my eyes.
"Shut up and get to work." I said, walking up the stairs. Okay. Time to focus. If I was a criminal, where would I hide? Most likely in a basement or attic... But they don't have a basement... Do they have an attic?
I entered the first room. There was toys scattered everywhere. The bed spread was blue with different red and yellow trains on it. I'm going to guess this room belongs to the 3 year old boy, Max, who lives here. I rummaged around through the closet and under the bed, but found nothing. I then looked up at the ceiling, to see if I could find a door to the attic. No luck.
I left the room, and entered the next room; a bathroom. I looked around a bit, but it was a small bathroom. Not many places to hide.
I decided to check the next bathroom so I could have them out of the way. Once again, no luck.
I had two rooms left; a young girl's room, and the master bedroom. I thought to myself. Why would they have the attic in their child's room? Wouldn't they put it in the master bedroom? I nodded to myself. Yes. It would be in the parent's bedroom.
I slowly crept into their room. No sign of anyone being there. Then I heard it. A small creak coming from right above me. I looked up, and sure enough, there was a small square on the ceiling that must lead to the attic. I grabbed a chair from the corner of the room. It was tipped over. The man obviously used it to climb up there, and then carelessly threw it away from the hole.
I stepped onto the chair, and slowly opened the door with my hands. It easily swung open, and I used my hands to hoist myself inside. Once I was in, I looked around. There was a bunch of junk up there. I heard another creak. He's in here...
I crept towards the corner where I heard the noise. That's when he jumped at me. The force of the blow threw me to the floor, him landing on top of me. He tried to hold my arms down, but I used something my trainer taught me. I rolled to my left side, putting myself on top of him.
"What's your name?" I asked, as he struggled. He didn't say anything, and just kept wiggling. "WHAT IS YOUR NAME?" I shouted in his face. He seemed taken aback by my yelling.
"Bruce." He finally said.
"Now listen to me, Bruce." I said, leaning in close to his face. "We could do this the easy way, or the hard way." That is my FAVORITE line to use during an assignment!
He then did something that surprised me. It happened in a matter of seconds. He got his arms out of my hold, and shoved me off of him. "Hard way it is!" I said, standing up. He ran towards the exit of the attic and jumped down.
I chased after him into the master bedroom. He turned around. Bad choice. I did one kick, and it hit him right in the gut. He doubled over in pain. He tried to stand up, and weakly walked towards the stairs. He then regained his composure and began to run. I could've ran after him, but I thought Carson might need a little action.
"Yo Carson!" I yelled.
"Yeah?" He said, peeking his head around the corner.
"Get him." I said, smirking. Carson's eyes widened, but he nodded. I watched him chase the man through the house. I laughed a little to myself. It looked sorta funny. I then saw them turn a corner, and my view was cut off. Dang. That was a really good show! I tip-toed down the stairs to see what was going on. I peered around the corner, and couldn't believe what I saw! I saw Carson talking to the criminal! What was he DOING?! He can't do that! I'm sure there's a rule somewhere that newbies, who have no clue what they're doing, can't talk to people involved with the assignment!
The criminal nodded to something Carson said. Why is he nodding? Is he agreeing to something? Is Carson convincing him to turn himself in? I sure hope that's what he was doing! Carson handed him a sheet of paper. A paper? What could possibly be on the paper that could help us complete our mission? Then, he let the man run out the back door! He just let him leave! What the heck?! And then it sunk in. This was my first failed mission... All because of that idiot! I'm gonna hurt him. I am SO gonna hurt him! I ran back up the stairs, quickly but quietly. I probably wasn't supposed to see that... But what was he doing?!
"Aubrey!" Carson said, acting as though he were "out of breath".
"Yeah?" I said, from the top of the stairs.
"He got away!" Carson said, faking a sad look. That little rat! How dare he lie right to my face?!
"What?!" I said, even though I already knew he let him go. Grrr...
"I'm so sorry." Carson said, apologetically. Yeah right! That little turd!
"It's... It's fine.." I said. But it's not fine. Carson was chatting it up with the enemy, and now he's lying about it. He had him right there, and he let him go. What is up with this guy? Something's not right...
