I didn't know what to say. He was blaming me for all of his little "family problems" and that is SO not fair! Obviously his family had problems BEFORE his dad went to jail! Reread that sentence. Yep. His dad WENT TO JAIL! If that doesn't say problems, I don't know what does!
I realized that I had been blankly staring at Carson for quite some time now. "This is NOT my fault." I said. He just laughed as if what I had just said was the most ridiculous thing he's ever heard. He should listen to himself talk sometimes.
"Karen!" He said, signaling her forwards.
"Yeah?" She said.
"Get her out of the chair. Escort her into the living room please." Carson said. What is he doing?
"Yes sir." Karen said. She walked over to me and grabbed my arms. She held them behind my back and led me into the living room.
"You smell. You need a shower." I said. Whenever I'm nervous, I give people harmless insults. It's my thing.
"Mhm. Sure." She said. "You smell."
"No I don't. I think you're smelling yourself. That stench is overwhelming." I said, smirking.
"Shut up, Coleson. You're making me regret helping you." Karen said, whispering that last part. Helping me? What is she talking about?
"If this is your way of helping me, you're failing." I said. She just rolled her eyes. We entered the room to see my mom with her mascara smeared from obvious crying. My brother was attempting to comfort her.
"Aubrey?" My mom said, confused.
"It's okay." I said, trying to calm her. I could always tell when she was upset. It was like a sixth sense. Except... This time it didn't take my sixth sense. Anyone could tell from the tear stains and her frown.
"Let her go." Logan said, standing up.
"Logan, sit down." I warned. "Are you forgetting she works for the CIA?" He seemed to be deep in thought, but he eventually sat back down. Karen held my arms while we stood right in front of my mom and my brother.
"Good job Karen." Carson complimented. He had just walked in with Davie, but... Where's Commander?
"Can you guys hurry it up?" I asked, annoyed.
"Yeah, once Commander gets back." Carson said, shrugging.
"Hurry WHAT up?" Logan asked.
"You'll find out soon enough." Carson said, an evil smile plastered on his ugly face. That's right. I just went there.
Suddenly, Commander burst into the room, holding my father.
"Dad?!" I said, alarmed.
"Hi." He said. Hi? HI?! Deep breaths. Okay, okay. It's okay. Everything's okay.
"Honey." My mom said, bursting into tears again.
"It's alright." My dad said. Logan rubbed my mom's back as she cried.
Carson, Bruce, and Davie all lined up behind Karen and I. "You can move." Carson told Karen. She slowly backed away. I turned around, to see the guns pointed at me. Again. Well isn't this just fabulous.
"What exactly do you plan on doing?" I asked.
"Your family gets to feel the pain my family has been feeling for the past few years." Carson said, the ever-present creepy smile on his face.
"How?" I asked.
"They get to watch you die." He said.
"You're not gonna kill me..." I said, trying to stall.
"Oh, but I am." Carson said, the creepy grin not leaving his face.
"You wouldn't kill me. I... Could be a valuable resource." I said, saying the first thing that popped into my head.
"What?" Carson said, confused.
"Well, I work for the CIA. I could get you into basically any place you want. I could get you any THING you want." I told him. I'm not lying, but yet I sorta am. I would NEVER work for him. I just don't want him to pull the trigger.
"But... I don't want anything. I want you DEAD." He said, his hand tightening on the gun.
"You know what your dad told me?" I asked him. His face looked surprised for a moment. His hands relaxed a little.
"What did he say?" He asked.
"He said he would do ANYTHING for you. He loved you. He loved your family." I said. Carson's face softened for a moment, but then returned to a look of pure rage.
"I don't care! He's in jail now and he won't tell me that himself!" Carson yelled.
"But he can. I think he enjoys your company. Maybe you could keep visiting him. He'll eventually talk to you. I know he will." I said.
"YOU DONT KNOW HIM!" Carson shouted, once again tightening his grip.
"That's true." I said, shrugging my shoulders. "I don't. But YOU do." He seemed to think about that statement for a moment.
"Of course I do. I'm his son." Carson said.
"Exactly. You're his son. He needs you. Don't give up on him now." I said.
"Shut up and turn around." Carson said, suddenly.
"But..." I started.
"No buts." He said. I slowly turned around to face my mom and my brother. I mouthed 'I'm sorry' to them. My mother buried her face into my brother's shoulder, as she cried. Logan tried to stay strong, but I could see his eyes were watery.
"I tried." I whispered, feeling tears welling up in my own eyes. I heard the bang of the gun.
