Millie's pov

As I stared outside I felt myself get hungrier and hungrier. I looked over to Paige and saw her waiting by an empty counter, talking to a girl who I assume is Nancy. I can't help but smile as I look at my sister. She was 16 years old when she left home. Now, she stood before me, an adult, thriving by herself. She is my hero. I would never forget that day.

Yelling, screaming, scrambling.

I was in my room, covering my ears.

"You are terrible parents! You don't care about my well being or your other daughter's well being! You never have!" Paige screamed. I could almost see the tears stream down her face.

My parents and Paige were at the point of throwing things. I could hear the breaking of glass in the dining room where they were fighting.

"You don't know how to parent your children! You're toxic! I'm ashamed that you're my parents!" Paige yells, anger in her tone.

"If you don't like the way we do things around here. You can leave. But you're not taking Millie!" My father screamed back at her.

Craaack

Another glass thrown to the ground.

"FINE! I'M NEVER GOING BACK!" Paige shouts, running out the door.

She never said goodbye.

"Millie here is your food," Paige says as she breaks me out of my flashback.

She slides me a yogurt parfait. She knows me so well.

"Thanks Paige." I say gratefully as I eat the parfait voraciously.

"You were dazing off again Millie, what were you thinking about?"

"Nothing important." I say, taking a deep breath.

She knows there's something off about me but she let it go.

"So we haven't really talked about how you got here. Why are you here, what happened to you?" Paige says while stuffing a piece of bacon in her mouth.

I look down at my parfait, using my spoon to mix the yogurt. I sighed.

"It's a long story Paige."

"Hey Millie, I got time to listen." Paige said, placing her hand on top of mine.

"Paige, ever since you left it's gotten a lot worse. Our parents... they are ... they've just been so unbearable. I can never say anything without them getting mad at me or if I don't say anything at all they think I'm hiding something. Paige, I couldn't take it anymore. Mom started locking me outside the house and Dad would put out his cigarettes on my legs. That's why I have to wear pants at school, so no one would notice. Even if people noticed, they wouldn't do anything about it. No one cared about me there." I said with bitterness.

Paige shakes her head, "What about Sadie, wasn't she your best friend?"

"She's been too busy sticking her tongue down her boyfriend, Wyatt Oleff's throat. So I guess she was too occupied to notice anything wrong was going on." I responded, sounding like I didn't care anymore.

"I'm so sorry Millie, I can't believe you went through this all by yourself. I should've been there for you." Paige said sympathetically. "But, I knew you would find your way out of that hell hole eventually."

I look down at my uneaten parfait again. I peek up at Paige and I could tell she knew that I didn't want to talk about the past anymore.

So Paige quickly, threw a fake smile on her face and changed the subject.
