"Mom I'm going to walk to school." I said as I turns the corner into the kitchen. My mom was sitting at the table with a mug in her hand, staring off into the air. When she noticed my presence she snapped out of it and looked at me.
"No honey I can drive you. It's your last first day!" She exclaimed but made no effort to stand up. I didn't want to be mean by telling her I didn't want her to drive me because I know there's a little more than just coffee in that cup. I walked closer to her and layed my hand on hers. She smiled sadly up at me.
"It's really nice out this morning and I'm going to meet June halfway anyways so don't worry about it." She nodded and turned back to her mug. I grabbed a water from the fridge and my brown bag and locked the door behind me as I left.
I walked about 10 minutes before I heard my name being called from behind me."V wait up!" My bestfriends familiar voice said. June and I have been bestfriends since 3rd grade. Our friendship started with a fight. I didn't have a blue crayon so I just took hers and she bit me. Now it's been 9 years and we're basically inseparable. June was gorgeous. She had long brown hair and big blue eyes. She had a small silver hoop nose piercing as well.
"So I need to tell you something." She said quietly and started fiddling with her fingers. I looked at her with my brow raised. The school was in sight but I was more interested in what she had to tell me.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"We'll remember when I told you I was sick and couldn't do our movie night with you last week?"
"And the week before." I added.
"Y-yeah. Well I wasn't actually sick." I stopped walking and looked at her quizzically. She in my eyes finally.
"I was on a date, or rather I was on dates." I widened my eyes and smirked at her."I'm so sorry I lied I just really like him and I wanted him to like me and I didn't know what else to do an-" I stopped her.
"You thought I'd be mad because you were on a date!? June I'm happy for you." I laughed. She let out a sigh of relief and we proceeded walking.
"So who is he?" I asked as we stepped onto the sidewalk in front of the school.
"His name is Ashton." She told me and before I could ask anymore questions a talk boy with a wide smile and curly brown hair came running up to us. I figured out he was Ashton when he picked June up and hugged her."Ashton I assume?" I said when he put her down. He nodded and then shook my hand. Which I thought was odd but whatever.
"June the boys and I wanna show you something come here." He said and started walking back towards wherever his friends were. June started to go to but then stopped and looked back at me.
"Go on dummy." I rolled my eyes at my sweet friend. She smiled and gave me a hug before running to him and shouting back that she'd see me at lunch. I walked towards the school, passing June and Ashton and his friends. 3 other boys who looked like wanna be hard asses. I met eyes with the black haired one for a slight second before entering the building. I pushed my auburn hair back behind my shoulders and pulled my paper out to check my locker number. For some dumb reason, we get different lockers every year rather than just keeping the same one every year.
143 it read.
"140,141,142,143 finally!" I huffed annoyed because it took me longer than it should've to find my locker. I twisted in the combination just as the devils voice spoke behind me."Well well well if it isn't daddy's little girl." Bethany Jones' ugly voice taunted me.
Bethany had always hated me and I had and still have no idea why. She was tall but still insisted on wearing heels nearly everyday. Her hair was always pulled back and it was dirty blonde. She was your basic mean girl.
I shoved my bag in my locker and grabbed the notebook for my first class. I didn't turn around to reply to Bethany and she obviously pleased about it."Don't act like you can't hear me bitch." She said louder. I rolled my eyes and turned towards her.
"Fuck off Bethany." I spat and walked away from her and towards my 1st period. I knew better than to think she'd leave it alone because it was barely 10 seconds before I heard her heels clicking behind me and then she was suddenly beside me, shoving me into the hard cream colored wall.
"What is your problem?" I yelled while picking up my green notebook. Her and her bitchy minions laughed.
"Speak when spoken too next time and it won't be a problem." She said. I stood up and dusted myself off.
"I'm not dealing with this all year Bethany, get over yourself, grow up and leave me alo-" before I could even finish, she shoved me again. Thankfully, somebody caught me before I hit the hard tile floor. I looked up and met eyes with Ashton. He raised a brow at me as if asking if I was alright. He helped me stand up the rest of the way and I nodded at him."Thanks Ashton." He smiled and nodded back. He looked between me and Bethany and then his smile went away.
"What's going on?" He asked me. I looked back at Bethany with a pissed look on my face."Nothing major, she's just being a bitch and pushed me into the floor." Ashton looked shocked for a split second before realizing it was Bethany we were talking about.
"Bethany just leave people alone geez." She rolled her eyes at him before looking back at me.
"I think we'll have a great senior year Ronniekins." She hopped and little and strutted off."It's Ronnie." I mumbled aggravated. I peeked over at Ashton who was rocking on his heels.
"Where's June?" I asked him.
"I already walked her to class." How sweet. Too bad Ill never meet somebody that nice. I smiled at him despite my insecure thoughts.
"What's your first class?" He asked grabbing my paper before I even opened my mouth to talk.
"Hey we have 1st period English together!" He exclaimed.
"Thank God Ill have somebody to talk to!" I laughed and we turned the corner to class. When we walked in, one of Ashton's friends were there.
"Hey Mike!" Ashton waved and I followed him towards the back where his friend was.
"Michael this is Veron-"
"Ronnie." I corrected. He nodded.
"Right. This is Ronnie, June's bestfriend." It was then I realized he was the boy I made weird eye contact with in front of the school. He was hella tall and slightly pale. His eyes were a pretty pale green and I strangely got a funny feeling in my stomach when he smiled at me before speaking.
"Hiya." He greeting.
"Hi." I chuckled. The teacher walked in and ordered us to have a seat. We all sat in the very back row against the wall. Ashton by the bookshelf, Michael in the middle, then me. During class, I caught myself staring at Michael. It's a good thing the bell ringing snapped me out of it or else he would've caught me. We all stood up and I started walking out of class when Michael stopped me."Hey Ronnie wait up." He jogged up beside me.
"Can I see your schedule?" I nodded and handed it to him. He skimmed over and and handed it back to me."We have 4th-7th together too." He stated.
"Good. Now I'll have somebody to talk to in most of my classes. I won't have to sit alone." I told him as we walked down the hall. It was coincidental that our lockers were only separated by 2 others.
"Why do you sit alone?" He asked, stopping with me at my locker. I didn't ask him why he stopped with me and just went with it. I got my locker open and grabbed my back and another notebook.
"I don't choose too. My only friend is June." He looked confused.
"Well now you have me and Ashton." He said kind of shyly."Really?" I said but didn't mean to say out loud. He chuckled.
"Yes really, you seem pretty cool." He smirked. I blushed but turned so he couldn't see me.
We parted ways and went on about our days. Michael sat by my in all our classes together and he, Ashton, June and the boys other 2 friends Luke and Calum sat with us too.
After the last bell rang, I hurried out so I could get to work. All the while with my new friend Michael Clifford on my mind.
