The scream was ripped from the girl's lungs. She ran out of the shop, forgetting about her caramel macchiato. She fell to his side and held his face in her hands, calling his name over and over again but he didn't respond. She checked his pulse and, with no response, started CPR.
"Someone call an ambulance." She screamed to no one in particular. The girl hunched over the boy, her tears falling onto his face.
"I love you, you can't leave me." The girl cried. "You promised." All she could see in her blurred vision was his face - peaceful, calm.
"Please." She begged as she continued with chest compressions. The sirens that she didn't hear, rang down the street. The woman that she didn't see, approached her and told her to 'step away and let them help him'. She was soon tugged away from the boy, she tried to fight the hands off her, holding out her hands to the unmoving boy on the ground, but she knew he wouldn't grab her. They wheeled the boy in to the back of the ambulance. She finally heard the nurses when they asked whether she wanted to ride in the back. She felt her head move and she stepped into the back. She sat there and watched as the nurses crowded round her boyfriend's body and performed various procedures on him. The girl didn't know whether he would wake up or not, she just knew that he couldn't leave her.
