Most stories begin with once upon a time
With two people falling in love, sublime
Where do they come from and where do they go
When the story ends are they forever in limbo
Who do we ask? Who would know?
Well this story begins, as most of them do
But with no once upon a time, this is true
For this story has never had an end
Sit with me and let us befriend
For a short while, I wish for you to attend
A story of two lovers completely in reach
Like water flowing onto a sandy beach
Yet forever apart I must say
These two remain far away
Let me tell you of their tragic play
We all have a beginning and an end
Given life and we believe it shall never end
Sadly, we fool ourselves with such a thought
We fear our ends, always making us distraught
What if I told you that life and death were actually real?
Not simply a word or description though that would be ideal
Life and death are as real as you and me
And they feel as much as need be
In the water, as most would say, is the source of Life
She lives watching those on the coast with blithe
She lives with pure joy and happiness for her creation
Enjoying her work for we are her fabrication
She laughs and loves all the joyous moments we've cast
And cries and feels sympathy for when dreams are smashed
We owe everything to her and are joyous for her gift
However we fear for what loves her as well, a man cast adrift
In the darkest of woods, far from the reaches of man
Sits a lonely entity, the hollowness of man
For this being knows cruelty, and sadness abound
For this man is death, who wears the darkest of crowns
All fear him for he is the end of our days
All wish to prolong his visit, wishing to disobey
For when he comes he brings sadness and grief
He hates himself for it, stealing from Life like a thief
Life and Death have had only a moment together
They had this only moment then would be parted forever
In this moment, they held each other's hands and looked into the others eyes
They wished for more time, for mankind was on the rise
Life asked Death, "What is to become of us? What are we to do?"
Death replied, "We go on doing what we each must do."
Life full of sadness asked why this must be.
Death simply replied, "It's what we're meant to be."
Life wrapped her arms around Death wishing to never let go.
Death held her close for time was short, wishing to forgo
Life and Death can never be together and I'll tell you why
You can never have a painful truth with a beautiful lie
Without them, mankind would cease to exist
Death knew this, though he wanted to resist
Death leaned toward Life to whisper to her softly
I will always long for you, I will love you constantly
Though we are apart I swear this to you tonight
One day I will find a way for us to reunite
After that Life and Death were separated so they would perform
What they had to do yet they were caught in a storm
Not a usual storm of thunder and rain as nature would create
But love, a force that anyone can relate
After they were pulled apart Life cried for forty days and nights
Death was so angry he destroyed hundreds of creations overnight
We remember this mighty flood through the book of God
Their story hidden within the words of man, how odd
Life found a brighter look on creation as years flew by
Death stayed in the forest, yet he would never cry
He stays strong for he knows that one day
He will hold his love again, God he'd betray
To hold her again, if only for a moment, he'd stay
This story has no end as I previously said
For Life still goes on, death holds the thread
They still long for each other, as lovers often do
Life and Death will see each other again, this much is true
For love grows stronger over time and it shall never undo
