The sky burned with the flame colors of dawn slicing through the treetops, shadows cast on down into the forest, only leaving little specks of light to go through the thick bundle of leaves and branches. As some shadows fell into the hollow, a weak breeze went inside the apprentice's den. Wolfpaw curled up, his muzzle deeper into his tail, he had changed positions during the night so much and he hadn't even noticed. Shivers crippled down his back. He slowly raised his head, with a faint yawn he fixed his eyes onto the small clearing in the hollow. He could barely see but he could just make out the head of a cat popping out of the warrior's den.
A black tom slowly walked into the edge of the clearing, his head looking down to his paws and his tail trailing behind him. Wolfpaw hesitated when the sleek tom stared back at him with his huge amber eyes, he gave him a small smile then stalked into the edge of the clearing.
"Ravenstorm..." Wolfpaw's voice was shaky, the tip of his tail twitched uncomfortably.
The dark tom had never even looked at him in such way, as kit he didn't even have the time to visit him in the nursery; according to Rubblefall, he put his Clan before himself. He is Owlstar's second choice, whenever she needs help for hunting parties or patrols, she calls him in. The last time Ravenstorm spoke to me was... probably moons ago. He quickly shook his thoughts away, his father was a noble and strong warrior that lived by the warrior code completely. They may not talk to each other but Wolfpaw knew his father was proud of him and he was proud of him. That was all that mattered to him.
More rays of sunshine lit up the camp and more cats came out of their dens. The warmth of the sun bristled in his fur, relaxing him, he let out purr of happiness. The sun on his pelt and the sweet scent of the forest in his nose, If only it was like this all the time.
"Hey, Wolfpaw!" A voice squeaked behind him.
He perked his ears and looked beside him. Lightningpaw smiled at him, holding his gaze. There was so much enthusiasm in her eyes that they glimmered, her tail waved side by side happily.
"What are you so happy 'bout?"
"Well training of course! This is going to be amazing!" She jumped.
"Then might as well go," He meowed, sitting up. He looked back to his sleeping friends and noticed them just beginning to stir. "I'll come with you though, don't worry." He lay his tail on her shoulder. He padded out and carefully walked close to camp entrance, he took his time even though the new apprentice nudged him forward urgently. He awaited to see his mentor just so he knew it'd be fine to leave. He caught a glimpse of Silentleaf's unmistakable greenish pelt but when he looked to the warrior's den she wasn't there. A bit puzzling, but he didn't comment over it.
"Come on let's go." He meowed.
With Lightningpaw close behind him they dashed out of the camp. A few leaves lifted behind them as they burst through a bush that was on their way. He slowed down at the sight of the training grounds, a few stone pebbles on the ground felt warm and others were night cold. But under his pads they felt smooth, long before Wolfpaw was apprenticed this place did not exist, it was all the work of Hindpaws. According to the elders they had made a camp of their own here many seasons ago, they always did very crazy things but to the elders, everything meant something.
Through the shadows of the trees a bush quivered and thrashed around. Wolfpaw unsheathed his claws and crouched down instinctively, the memory of the strange white tom with the she-cat entering the camp entrance still lurking around in his mind . A light grey tail popped out of the bushes, waving side by side. He let his guard down a little, he was beginning to recognize this cat, the tail disappeared into the shadows. Suddenly Silentleaf rushed out of the undergrowth with a mouse dangling on her jaws.
