The Runed Blade

The Real Hero

A woodland elf walked through the endless snow her skin seemingly glowing in the pale light of the moon her hair was a deep crimson and her eyes a sharp green she turned her head hearing a wolves howl "Hopefully I will make it in time to find survivors... If there are any" she said as she kept walking through the snow. She had been asked by the king to investigate a recent attack on the pale elves. There were no survivors the houses had been burned to ash and the people didn't have much luck either. She found her way to a courtyard and saw a gleaming blade in the tight hold of a dead elf. She slowly kneeled down and slipped the blade out of the dead elf's hand before inspecting it. It didn't glow like it had with the other elf it was cold to the touch but she could feel its power deep inside the blade, the more she inspected the blade the more she realised what the runes meant "A hero will save or destroy the world?...this can't be the blade that I think it is" she said before throwing away her other sword and slipping the runed blade inside her sheath then she began her long journey back to the kingdom of Maelstrom and the destiny that awaits her.

She hopped aboard the ship that had brought her to the frozen wasteland "Captain if you will we are ready to depart" she said and the captain nodded "Hoist all sails let's get out of this block of ice!" He yelled to the crew then as they got to work he jumped down to the elven girl "How did your adventure go Miss Sunstrider?" He asked his voice peaking with interest as she turned to him "It went well Captain but I suggest you focus on the ship and not the affairs of the King" she said speaking firmly as she knew he wouldn't listen to her. She went down to her bunker and put the sword beside her bed "I wonder what his highness will think of my discovery" she said to herself looking at the blade. Only then did it glow with her curiosity making her eyebrows knit together 'what in gods name?' She thought staring at the blade as the boat rocked from side to side. She's on her way home.
