Niall's POV
"Hey glad you could make it!" That was the first thing thrown at me and Jessica as soon as we got to the field Friday night. It was only a few straggler players who weren't in the locker rooms yet, none of our friends were out here.
This unfortunately meant no Harry or Louis until the game started. But they needed to focus during this game; I had convinced Jessica not to break up before the game, but rather at the end when the pressure was off.
Jessica left me in my train of thought and snagged us, and the rest of the gang's seats. We were seated right behind the marching band but across from the cheerleaders. She seemed to be already regretting the decision when some of the girls' woof whistled at the players coming out of the locker rooms, but these were the best seats to root on our friends. And lovers.
We waited patiently for some of the crowd to be seated before the referee came to the middle of the field. The two teams slithered out of the locker rooms, some were taunting our team and before any fights broke out, the referee positioned himself in the middle of the teams.
"This will be a fair game, no foul play if you can help it. Now team captains," He nodded to Harry and the other team captain. "Shake on it before we can start." Both boys shook on it, but I pretended I didn't see the guy wipe his hand on his shirt and mouth a foul word.
"Easy there Nialler, don't bite the other team's heads off. And you might wanna release your drink before..." I heard Jessica talking to me but I couldn't hear her as my drink exploded all over my lap from me holding it too tightly. Oops.
"Its fine Jess," I said before she could say anything. "I got a change of clothes in my bag." She nodded and I stood to go and change, but what she didn't know was these were Harry's clothes that I was going to give back to him.
Of freaking course this would happen to me and then Harry would think that I was a creeper, wearing his clothes for the second time this week. I heard the crowd boo and scream, so I ran back and saw that the other team had scored already, a defeated Louis lay on the ground next to the Liam the goalie.
This was going to be a long game.
I was right about it being a long game.
It was halftime; the cheerleaders were performing, the marching band was doing their things, and the team was sitting and resting. I glanced at Jessica and her knee was bouncing up and down nervously. She was just as scared to do this as I was. We were going to publicly end our fake relationship and it was in the middle of a game that we were losing.
We were 3-0 and I could tell that all of this was getting to Harry. His technique was getting sloppy and easy passes were rolling past him. I don't think he even knew that I was here; the few times we made eye contact his eyes were glossed over, unfocused.
"What if we lose this game Niall?" Jessica's voice snapped me out of my train of thoughts; her eyes were wide and round, making her looks much more innocent than she was. I wondered almost instantly how her childhood was, cos according to the stories she told me, her teenage years haven't been the best time of her life.
"W-We won't. Harry and the guys can do this," I said and she nodded, turning away to watch some of the marching band fall over each other. "I hope." I muttered to myself. We both sit there, either watching the band or watching the players; I didn't even know how Jessica wanted to do this.
Did she want to do it big and loud? Or a quiet thing that no one pays attention to? I mentally voted for the latter but it would take a while for everyone to find out. While the first choice, everyone would see, it would be completely mutual so Louis wouldn't break my neck and we could go to our respective crushes and ask them out.
