"I brought the marshmallows!" Leo was bouncing around the hospital room, putting up tiny sparking decorations with his nose on fire.
Percy raised an eyebrow. The son of Poseidon had had a long three days, after his relapse, he'd been taken into emergency surgery to repair the damage, his body had rejected his meds and the seizure had reopened wounds. He'd spent two days on serious life-support deeper in the ICU, but had been taken down to just an oxygen mask on and off every few minutes and the usual monitors. Since then he'd had another operation on his hands to try and repair where the terrorist had systematically broken his fingers and destroyed the appendages, he wouldn't be holding a sword any time soon. His hands were now in delicate looking braces which had a band around his wrist and certain points on his fingers, with almost wire like, strong, metal rods webbing between them like the legs of a spider, making sure they healed properly and didn't get any worse.
He looked confused at the fire-wielder.
"Marshmallows?" Leo looked at him like he was missing the most obvious thing in the world.
"Well, duh! How are we going to have a campfire without marshmallows!? That's barbaric!" He carried on putting the small twinklers around the room, hanging them on his IV stand, heart monitor, window ledge and headrest. The others ignored his actions as they talked.
"Campfire?"
"Yeah," said Thalia, "It's campfire time at camp right now and the mortals are gone at the moment and we figured you'd want a distraction so, as you can't go to the campfire, we're bringing the campfire to you!" Nico and Thalia grinned as they were passed marshmallows.Annabeth ran her hand over the cast on Percy's lower left arm.
"We're going to eat marshmallows and tell stories, maybe sing a bit if those three get sugar high enough."
"We're in for battle stories." Added Chris and Clarisse. Sally just sat by her son's headrest and smiled at them, he really did have amazing friends."Really?" Percy may have been restricted to only a few words at the time, but he could still convey what he wanted to say easily enough.
"Of course, Seaweed Brain. We'd never leave you out.
"And Chiron let us have the good marshmallows." Leo chimed in. Thalia hit him. "Ow!"
"We're here for Kelp Head, not marshmallows."
"Speak for yourself." Muttered Nico as he reached for another. Annabeth and Thalia sighed and Percy laughed tightly, unable to stop himself even as he had to be careful."Idiot." Grumbled Annabeth.
"So," grinned Clarisse, "Who wants to start, between us we know enough embarrassing stories to turn the punk here red!" Despite the threat, Percy grinned: he was surrounded by friends and everything was going to be OK.
They were still sharing stories three hours later and were down to one bag of marshmallows, sadly Percy couldn't eat many because of his new dietary restrictions ("If I can eat ambrosia, the food of the gods, why can't I eat marshmallows!?") which Annabeth and Sally were keeping him to no matter what. He was not a happy demigod.
"Remember that time in the dinning pavilion when Piper made you guys stand up and dance!?" Annabeth gestured to the males of the Seven.
"Yeah!" Thalia joined in on the line of teasing, "Leo was the chicken and Percy was the robot!" The two broke off into peels of laughter as Leo's face went the same shade as the fire which had cought in his hair.
Percy frowned.
"I'd love to be able to now."
"You're on bed rest and you promised not to argue, Seaweed Brain. No dancing for you."
"But Annie! I'm a demigod with ADHD! I'm not going to be able stand months of not being able to walk! This is cruel and unusual punishment!" Thalia, Nico and Chris laughed at him as Annabeth stared, unimpressed."Tough." She declared.
Percy shifted slightly in his bed, trying to get more comfortable. It didn't have the desired effect though.
The saviour of Olympus had stitches running along his face, bandages over both shoulders, a cast encasing his lower left arm which had already been gratified beyond recognition, braces on both hands and his legs were carefully maintained and positioned with casts and poles and bandaged and levels in the hope of one day restoring their use.He could barely move on his own any more and he hated it, he knew it would get gradually better with time, but he hated it.
He had his family though and they were supporting him, so he decided he would be OK, it would be hard and painful and long and stressful. But he'd be OK.
The family were laughing when Doctor Jenson and Nurse Ashley walked in; the nurse was holding miscelaneous medical supplies and the doctor was carrying what apeared to be panphlets: Percy raised an eyebrow as the laughs died down.
"I like the decorations." Commented Ashley as she steped towards the bed. Leo's hair cought fire from his position behind th mortals and Thalia quickly hit him ver the head to put it out. He grumbled and rubbed his head as the other teens tried to stifle their laughter.
"Thank, Miss." The fire user nodded to the nurse, then Percy spoke up.
"Morning doc. What you got there?" The staff and Percy had gotten to know each other since he'd properly woken up.
"Something you might like." Jenson answered while Nurse Ashley started applying salve to the now grimacing demigod's exposed skin. All the staff knew that the teen was postively itching to start moving in some was, so the doctor was rather excited about telling the kid about this. He handed a panphlet to Percy who handed it to his mother without even pausing.
"Wheelchairs for all ages." She read off the front. Percy's face took on an expression caught between upset and excited.
"I'm gonna have a wheelchair?"
"How else were you planning to move around, Kelp Head?" Thalia interjected.
"I dunno its just..." This was where the doctor cut in.
"I know it's a huge adjustment, but you keep saying how you want to get mmoving and this is the first step in that direction. It's a huge lea in your recovery." Percy nodded slowly, considering the proposal, then looked up at the doctor.
He grinned.
"How fast can wheelchairs go?"
