Carrie didn't falter as she stalked through the turned up pavement and broken glass. She locked eyes with the storm man. Instinct kicked in. She thought to all of the people she fought for. Her mother, Odessa and Vanessa. She hadn't had the strange powers for long but she knew it felt right. After her heart stopped, she was different. She felt like she could use these abilities as a focused tool, an unstoppable force.
"Carrie, they call you eh?" The brute chuckled. "Thorns are a terrible curse for a lovely rose like you. I should really put you out of your misery." He crookedly smiled, "come on, you won't feel a thing." Carrie remembered her mother's words, "You are a fighter, you are light. One day you will face many obstacles, use your heart and do not shield it, open it and let out the torrents." Carrie recalled the roller coaster of emotions she felt over the past few days. Sadness when her career ended, shock when she discovered her powers, fear when the storm man came for her and now a calm yet smoldering anger. How dare this man come and threaten her friends just because she had magic?
Carrie pushed her feelings to the edges of her body until she was silhouetted in a warm glow. She moved the glow until it formed her fire wings as well as pieces of armor. All while she did this the man smirked. Finally Carrie jumped, folded her wings, raised a fist and aimed for the storm's heart.
Carrie felt his meaty fingers wrap around her wrist. Suddenly she was flying backwards to the car. Carrie unfolded her wings, pushing against the wind and stopping her momentum. She dropped to the ground and ran at the man. He grabbed her by the shoulders and roared in her face. "I am Kyulk! You will die! Roses are an abomination!" He screamed. Carrie felt his axe against the back of her neck. Carrie concentrated on the axe. Her fire grew brighter as her powers were expended. The blade of the axe melted, leaving it dull and had enough space for her to drop through. Carrie grabbed  Kyulk's leg an poured her magic into it, trying to burn it off, but the man only laughed. "You can't defeat a Storm Thrasher! Idiot rose!" Carrie looked back to his leg and saw that beneath the skin, a greyish blue web of light pulsed. "See? Magic, especially yours, can't burn me!" Kyulk boomed. "But can a blade cut you?" Carrie replied, seeing a scar on his leg. "Enough!" He yelled. Carrie weaved out of his swinging arms and ran a few feet back. She stared at her right hand and formed a dagger out of fire. Fire can't kill him, she remembered, but this sharp glass could, she thought, looking down at the broken glass from the car wreck.
Carrie scooped up some glass chunks and dropped them into the flames of the dagger. She willed the flames to melt the glass and lift it into the shape of the dagger. Soon, Carrie had a dagger of glass, the handle was smooth and fit to her hands, the blade was thick and sharp and within the blade was fire, so she could reforge the dagger if she needed to.
Carrie concealed the weapon and flew up. She then folded her wings and dropped so her foot hit the back of Kyulk's head. He spun around and punched her in the gut, pushing her aside, Carrie leapt back up, punching him with her reinforced fire gloves. He jumped to the left, to make her fall but she swung her fist around so it hit him in the ribs. He kneed her in the chest, knocking the wind out of her. Kyulk feinted left where she blocked, but then struck right.
Carrie felt Kyulk's iron fist hit her in the temple. Hard and swift, she fell to the floor where Kyulk stood over her. Time seemed to slow. She saw Odessa and Vanessa run behind the massive storm man. As the girls both attacked, scratching and punching, Kyulk turned. Carrie pulled the dagger from her waistband and sliced Kyulk's ankles. She jumped up and hovered above as her enemy fell to the ground, his ankle tendons severed. Carrie slammed down, her dagger finding its mark, directly in Kyulk's heart.
