Tears formed in my eyes as I read the board, they left. Our flight was gone. I looked at Chandler, his face red with anger. They left us. "Chan-"
"Follow me," he cut me off, and dragged me over to another lady, sitting behind a podium getting ready to board the next flight. "Excuse me," he started, "are there any other flights this evening headed to Atlanta?" She turned her eyes to face Chandler, and gave a stern look, "you kids got tickets?"
"Our parents took them and boarded without us," I stated, but quickly regretted it. Chandler shot me a look saying 'that was a stupid idea' out of the corner of his eyes.
The lady raised her eyebrows and started, "so I'm supposed to believe that two children were abandoned in an airport, and need two free tickets on for a flight to Atlanta? You two kids running away together? I'm sorry to delay your honeymoon, kids. Next!" Wow, thanks for nothing bitch. Chandler rolled his eyes, and I saw his face twist in frustration. He sighed, and approached the woman, once more.
"Okay lady, you win. Can you tell us how much each ticket is?" she rolled her eyes at him. Guess eye-rolling was something that was gonna happen a whole lot now?
"Sure, you wanna come up with $643.00?" Now what, master Chan. He reached into his pocket, and pulled out a wallet. A couple hundred dollar bills. My mouth dropped open. Damn, did he rob a bank?! He handed the lady 7 bills, and I looked over to the woman, with the same reaction I had painted across her face. "Um...okay. Two tickets? You board at 11:50pm...so make sure you're ready. It's a 5 hour flight, so make sure you're occupied on the way." Chandler just walked away, and I followed him, jogging slightly to catch up.
"Chandler, where did you-"
"Don't worry about it. Now let's get you a phone charger."***
We sat on a bench in the terminal, and my phone had finally turned on. "Time?" Chandler asked.
"10:36, we have another hour." Chandler sighed and buried his face in his hand. Notifications started streaming in on my phone. 16 missed calls. 8 from mom, 6 from unknown number, and 2 from Drake. 7 new voicemails. And 6 text messages. I opened the voicemails first, and my mom's voice immediately came on,
"Message 1 of 7: Honey! Please answer! We're about to take off and- Message Erased." So they're really gone. Another voicemail began playing from my mother,
"Message 2 of 7: Sweetheart? Are you and Chandler lost? Your father and I are- Message Erased." That man is not my father. I tried to fight back the tears. They left us here. Alone, with nothing.
"Message 3 of 7: Hey babe, are you home? Wanna catch a movie or something tonight?" Drake. Chandler looked up, "who was that?" he questioned.
"Just a friend from Center."
"Yeah, friends really call each other babe," he retorted, sarcastically, "so you got a boyfriend back home?"
"Um yeah. Drake..." my voice trailed off and the name caught in my throat. I miss flipped up blond hair, his dark brown eyes, his soft voice, and just everything about him. I began to picture every memory I've ever had with him. All 10 years of them. We'd been friends since we were 5, and we grew up together. We'd eventually started dating in 7th grade ago, and celebrated our 2 year last week. Damn, I wish I was with him right now. Chandler probably sensed my longing from him, as he put his arm over my shoulder and allowed me head to fall onto his shoulder. I lifted my head a little and gave a confused look, and he shrugged.
"Hey I mean, our parents aren't married yet. We're not technically related." I smiled for the first time that day, and placed my head back onto his shoulder.***
"The 11:50 flight tonight is now boarding. Flight 485 to Atlanta, Georgia is now boarding. All travelers boarding first class may now come to the front. Current time is 11:43pm," the voice cut into my sleep. I slowly picked my head up off of Chandler's shoulder and began stretching my arms.
"What are we flying?" I said to Chandler while yawning.
"Business class, we'll probably board in about 5 min or so." I nodded, watching all of first class people board the plane, one by one.
They eventually cleared out all first class passengers, and announced, "all travelers in rows 11-21, please make your way to the boarding station."
"What row are we?" I asked him.
"You're in 22C and I'm in 22B," he replied, handing me my ticket. We went up behind everyone in line, since we were the first of the next group anyway, and slowly made our way to the front.
I couldn't stop thinking about how I had slept on Chandler's shoulder. How much of an idiot I was, considering I barely knew him. I was perfectly happy with Drake and I would make a long distance relationship work. I don't need a stepbrother trying to make me feel comfortable when I can make my way on my own. Though, he was helpful with getting plane tickets. I feel like I own him something, and I guess we both needed a moment to be happy in the situation we were in. I'm overthinking this, aren't I?
"You okay?" Chandler asked, it must've look like I was worried or something.
"Yeah I'm fine," I looked ahead and saw we were nearing the front of the line, and about 30 people were lined up behind us and 5 in front.
We finally reached the front, and handed the lady our tickets, and then began making our way towards our seats.***
I opened my eyes to the feeling of an arm around my shoulder. My eyes flashed open in panic, only to reveal Chandler's concerned eyes looking back into mine. I smiled seeing it was only him, and tried to start a conversation, "so, Chandler. You never really told me all that much about yourself."
"Don't worry about me," he replied. I just rolled my eyes and settled into his shoulder.
"Wait Chandler, I'll be right back," I stated as he gently slipped his arm back into his lap. I climbed up from my window seat, and scooted past Chandler, making my way towards the bathroom in the back of the plane. I went around the wall of the plane the separates passengers to the cargo supply, where the bathroom door was located. I opened the door, and opened my mouth to scream, but my screams were interrupted by the shock of two arms pulling me into the room.
