I sighed and spoke, "I'm sorry, Chandler. We needed these guns in case any of them broke in or something. I'm still alive, and I also got this duffle bag thing and who knows what useful items might be in-"
He raised a hand, cutting me off.
"Alex, listen. I don't want anything happening to you. It's too risky. A few guns won't do us anything, they might not even be loaded. If they're not, it's only extra weight. You can barely even shoot, and I don't see any targets around here to help train you with," he reasoned.
He's right, I've never held a gun in my life. I didn't think I had made it so obvious though, I mean I eventually hit the walkers...I was able to switch it so it was ready to fire and not on safety.
Wait a sec... "you watched me shoot? How long have you been there?"
"I'm not stupid, Alex. I felt it when you got up, and I heard the door open. I decided to wait a few seconds to see what you would do, and I came downstairs while you were examining your cut leg."
Man I hate him. He's too protective. He should've just trusted me enough to let me go on my own this afternoon.
He leaned away from the wall and began walking towards me. Or so I thought, he walked right past me and climbed onto the counter, taking a look out the window.
"My god, Alex. There's like 20 of them out there," he sighed.
"Sorry..."
He squatted down and began examining the guns. He flipped a few things on a few of them and I watched in awe as he skillfully manipulated the switches and what not.
"These are good guns, try not to waste amo. They're all fully loaded. Don't make any stupid mistakes also. You don't get second chances once you're eaten and dead." Well that's one way to put it. I took a moment to take in his words. And he started again, "I'll be there by your side at every battle though. Just remember that. Those things won't get you if you don't do anything stupid."
He swung his legs over the counter and unzipped the bag. The blue ocean in his eyes suddenly seemed to spill out of the center of his eyes and take a much larger form as his eye lids also swung open wide.
Confused, I ran a few steps over to him and looked inside. My jaw dropped as I examined it's contaminants. It was a baby.
Chandler picked up a note that was attached to its onesie.
"Couldn't afford to have child during this shit time. If you find this please do not abandon my baby boy. He deserves a good person to look after him here, please take in my baby Kyle," Chandler read.
"I guess we take it in...? I suggested.
Chandler hesitated, "I don't think so. We can't handler a child, we're still young ourselves.
"We can't leave it to die," I pleaded, "maybe when it grows up it will be helpful?"
"We don't have 10 years, Alex."
"Well I'm keeping it with us as long as we're still in this motel. Besides, it'll give us something to do while we're here," I replied. I scooped the baby up in my arms, and it slowly opened its eyes and began blinking the sleep out of its eyes. It looked up at me with gleaming green eyes, and I even thought they had a hint of thankfulness.
I rocked it back and forth for a few seconds, and then realized it probably hadn't been fed in a while, and sent Chandler to the fridge to retrieve something small to fill him up.
I was surprised it hadn't been crying when I slung the bag over my shoulder, or when I had tried to shove the bag through the window. Must've been disciplined well. He looked like he was maybe 2 and a half years old, give or take. He had a small bush of blond hair sprouting from his head, and extremely pale skin.
I turned back to Chandler, who was busy scanning the new child as well.
"We need a room for him, and I'd say we need him close to us at night. Just in case," Chandler spoke, breaking the silence.
"Um...we can build a small bed out of pillows and blankets on the dresser upstairs," I said, more as a question than a statement. Chandler nodded, and he jumped off the counter. I cradled 'Kyle' and walked towards the stairs, motioning for Chandler to follow.

"Chandler, can you see if you can find some extra blankets or towels or something somewhere around here?" I asked as I laid Kyle down along the three square pillows we had set on the dresser.
"On it," he called out from the other room. He returned a few seconds later carrying a small tan blanket and he set it down across Kyle's small body.
Kyle's eyes opened a bit as he spoke softly, "Mommy?" Chandler's eyes went wide.
"Hi sweetheart..." I awkwardly spoke to the baby in front of me. Chandler slapped my shoulder in disapproval. I've never had a younger sibling or cousin to take care of so I had no idea what I was supposed to say. Am I supposed to act like his mother now?
What more does he say? Can he speak in sentences?
"Can-can I have drink mommy?" he stuttered. I sent Chandler downstairs to get some water who quickly returned with a short glass. I held it up to him and he grabbed the glass and held it up to his mouth. I guess maybe he might be a little older than 2 and a half if he's this smart.
"Kyle, Daddy and I are going to go downstairs for a few minutes. Okay?" I asked, praying that he'd understand. To my luck, he shook his head.
Chan grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the room. I followed him down the steps and he started, "how are we supposedly to care for a child?"
"It doesn't seem that hard and we'll manage. Don't worry about anything he'll turn out fine."
"He won't be fine. He's growing up in a world of zombies!" Chandler scolded.
I sighed and reassured, "we'll be fine."

It was about 2am and Chandler and I sat on the bed facing each other and talking. We couldn't really see each other in the darkness, but that didn't really matter to either of us. We had moved Kyle from the dresser to the bathroom and made a cradle out of the sink for him to sleep in, which worked surprisingly well. I took Chandler's hand in mine, and joked, "so, Mr Riggs. Guess we're parents now?"
Chandler simply laughed and playfully hit my arm. He then turned a bit more serious and spoke, "shut up, Alex. Keeping the baby was your decision. If anything happens it's on you.
I suddenly realized that neither of us had left go hands, and blushed. He couldn't see it in the darkness, thank god.
"This place is boring," I finally spoke.
"We can watch a movie on your phone maybe?" Chandler suggested.
"I guess, we'd have to be quiet though, I don't want Kyle waking up." I leaned over to the side table and fished through my stuff and thangs in my bag and pulled out my phone and switched it on. Still at 75% battery. I propped myself up against the headboard of the bed and Chandler joined me. I opened up Netflix, which somehow was still able to work, and scrolled through all the movies.
"Here wait, stop scrolling for a sec," Chandler commanded. I paused and he tapped on a movie, making it enlarge across the whole phone screen. I smiled as soon as it started playing, it was one of my old favorite horror movies called 'Fear Island'.

Probably an hour into the movie, I felt something slip onto my shoulders which made me jump and drop the phone. Chandler laughed and I picked up the phone and shined the light in his face, seeing his arm stretched across my back. I slapped his arm and then put my head on his chest. He adjusted his body and I fixed myself, getting more comfortable until we could begin watching the movie again.
A small gasp escaped my mouth as one of the movie characters was shown burned to death in a hot tub. My gasp was quickly stopped when I felt Chandler tilt my chin up and place his lips on mine. I started to smile and returned the short kiss, and then we both turned back to the movie.
Though I couldn't see him in the darkness, I could sense his famous smirk was across his face as we kept watching, and my face was red and smiley, and I could tell I was blushing. I suddenly thought about Drake, and how he would be torn if he found out about Chandler and I. A tear escaped my eyes as I started to think about him. I loved him, and now I think I love Chandler. They're both everything that I could ever want, and now I feel terrible for leaving Drake. He's probably so worried right now.
"Hold on, Chandler. I'm getting kinda thirsty," I lied as I squirmed out of his grip and climbed out of bed. I was still holding the phone in my hand as I scaled down the stairs and into the kitchen. I stood up on the counter and smiled as I saw I had connection. A bunch of notifications suddenly streamed in on my phone, and I smiled when I saw a few voicemails from Drake. I opened a few of them and listened as the voicemail operator spoke, "First Unread Voice Message, from 'Drake <3'. Thursday, December 18, 9:42pm," Drake's voice then started speaking in a hushed tone with lot of banging and moaning in the background, "hey babe. I really could use some help right now. A bunch of these...things...are surrounding my car. I'm hiding on the floor so they can't see, but I just wanted to make sure you're okay. I love you, please come help me if you can. If I don't make it, I love you and I hope you won't forget me. I hope I get to see you again." There was a click on the receiver, and then the operator spoke again, followed by another message from Drake, "hey Alex, it's Drake again. I miss you, and I'm kinda in a bit of situation here, and I just want to let you know that I love you. Please call back soo-" suddenly there was a scream on the other end, and a lot of banging. I then heard moans and the sound of a bone snap, which sent chills down my back. I began bawling and set dropped my phone on the counter. I stood there frozen listening to the faint sounds of the walkers enjoying their Boyfriend-Soufflé as I felt my heart snap in half. I sank down onto the counter, and cried.
