Time is funny when you think about it
When you ignore the physics of it all,
It's not real
It doesn't truly existEvery "day" passes because we say so
Every "zone" reflects a different clock
Every "year" passes with a grandiose holidayThese peculiarities follow us in life
A month passes in a blink of an eye,
Yet some seconds stretch foreverWhen we age, each year composes
a smaller fraction of our lives,
A year speeds differently to eachAnd as we age, we lose moments
We look up and realize
Our lives are completely differentWe no longer associate with the same people
We look, act, talk, think differently
We, in short, are not the sameEven in a perceived second, a whole life
Can change, just like that,
At the drop of a hatPerhaps this is why
I see the people I love or loved
Differently within a matter of secondsPerhaps this is why
I see the world I inhabit
Much crueler than I had beforeChange is expected, encouraged and yet,
In the face of change, I shrink, I cower
Perhaps this is why
I still love those people
Who no longer love mea.b.
