"What bloody took you so long!?" Sally yelled.

"I'm sorry, but my cab doesn't have wings" I replied sarcastically.

"If this town wasn't full all psychos-"

"'-I'd be out of a job'" I mimic her. "I know, you chant it all the time"

I walk passed her to the ring of cops who were silently glaring at me, tight assed bastards.

After all this time they still haven't gotten used to my presence. Well, the more well experienced ones have gotten used to me, and some of the newbies really look up to me, but those people are few and far between.

I notice that no one was going into the building, and on the concrete floor at the building's entrance there were multiple splats of deep red on the ground.

"Talk to me" I said to Sally over my shoulder.

"The madman up there has several people bound and gagged, and his pushing them one-by-one off the roof" she said replied flatly.

"Revenge? Anger? Or he simply snapped?" Those were more often the case with situations like this. When a simple guy gets passed by for a promotion they react in the most violent ways possible.

"No clue," Sally says. "We just need you to get up there"

"I'm guessing going up the stairs is out of the question" I deduce, pointing a finger at the entrance.

Sally nodded. "The corridors are laced with bombs, he did a hell of a number on my ground team"

I look at the ambulance and immediately understood what she meant.

I look back up at the top, you could barely make out the black dots laced around the edge of the building.

"So what are our options?" I asked.

It was then a nearby woman whose uniform was 2 sizes too small exploded, "Isn't your job to stop this!? But all you've been doing since you got here is ask questions!"

I merely glance at her, then trained my attention back on Sally.

"Every time a coper gets close he pushes more hostages off." Sally informs me, also ignoring her fellow officer. "We tried positioning snipers, but the bastard picked a good location cause the building is too damn high. Anytime we get a clear shot of him he puts up more people as a barricade."

"Slick bastard" I comment, then I think for a minute, "I assume you have a way for me to get up there?" I asked with a small grin.

She nods.

"And it's too dangerous for you to give one of your precious officers cause my life is more expendable?"

Nods.

"Plus if I die you won't suffer any repercussions and can blame it on a freak accident"

"I'll tell them in court that you'll surely be missed" Sally said as she slaps a pair of heavy boots in my guts.

"The fuck are these?" I looked at the strange device that was in the shape of footwear.

"Gravity Defying Magnet Boots"

"Ga-de-M-ba?" I tried to pronounce the acronyms.

"GDMB will do just fine" Sally chuckles. I hear a couple of officer's snicker at my attempts, but I was to fascinated by the boots.

I coo at it.

"So let me guess," I begin to say giddily. "I wear these and use them to climb up the side of the building and take care of...things?" I smile widely at the end.

Sally folds her hands and gives me a small nod, trying to fight the smile on her face.

"OH YA BABY!" I yell in delight, "I'm surprised your esteemed officers of the law haven't begged you to let them volunteer for the job."

I was already on the floor, kicking off my sneakers and pulling on the heavy boots.

"The cowards begged me to call you this time." Sally laughed, looking back at her men.

"CHIEEEEEF!" They all cried out in sheer embarrassment.

Sally turns her back to them then I see her roll her eyes in obvious humor.

I fasten the boots with a metal clamp and jump up, I try for a standing march but it was proving difficult.

"Shits sorta heavy" I complain, then lift one leg so as to be able to look at the soul.

"I hope you have good lower body strength" Sally comments, "Cause you need to go at the building with a running start."

I walk a distance away from everyone and position myself parallel to the side of the building. I assume the runners position and take a deep breath.

"Generate enough kinetic force! It'll help you stick!" Sally calls out.

I nod slightly and breath out.

I tried to shot off all my emotion, I could hear the camera news crew at a distance but I calm and steady my nerves.

I take in one more deep breath, hold it...and release.

I wipe all emotion from my face and snap my head back up.

I am completely in the zone.

"MOVE!" I yell as I barrel down towards the side of the building.

I push with all my force and give little regard to the bystanders that rushed to get out of my destructive path. In the reflection of the glass windows of the building I see the boots light up with pale neon blue lights.

10 feet away...7 feet... 5 feet-

I hold my breath and lunge up into the air once I was within 3 feet of the building.

While in the air I tilt backwards, bring my knees up close and the boots slam my feet down onto the side of the building magnetically.

I don't even wait a beat and keep on running...
