Second.

Nothing.

I could see nothing. I could feel nothing. Nothing but silence filled the room.

I was still conscious. I could think properly, but my body was a million years away from my control. My chest seemed to rise up and down gently against the stone cold floor as usual. I was in a relaxed state.

This confused me. Had I even woke up yet? Was everything only a mere nightmare? No. It couldn't have been a dream. I was in pain. Terrible pain.

Suddenly my right shoulder was elevated up and placed back down. This was enough to frighten me out of sleep. I rose up sharply with a startled gasp. My slimy eyes shot open in fear of danger. I felt like a wild and helpless animal making direct contact with its predator.

"Professor?!", was all I managed to scream out as I whipped to my right.

Nobody was in sight. I looked down with unpleasant thoughts. Somebody had touched me. I was certain of it. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to interrupt my deep slumber; only a great fright could do that.

My vision was clear and all seemed in its usual place. All except for my glass tube which had been strewn out amongst the ground, and the door which had been left wide open. As if somebody had entered only to make a quick escape.

I lifted up through all of the pain in my lacerated feet and stepped over the massive shard piles. The sharp pieces had made contact with the rest of my body, but they only rolled off into the glass heaps below. My skin was thick and flexible; perfect for preventing piercings or gashes. My hands and feet, however, lacked of a good protective outer layer.

My knees grew weak as I marched onward towards the entrance and collapsed onto the door frame. My knees hit the ground with a noisy smash, but I was too curious to stop myself from exiting the room.

Professor had told me about the outside world, but what was it really like?

I crawled outside the room, hand and knee, and turned to my left. There was a giant flight of metal stairs that appeared to go on for eternity. I couldn't resist the urge...

So I didn't.

I heaved my limp self off of the floor and crouched up the stairway. It felt weird to lift my legs. I'd never done it before. It was a natural instinct to acquire so that was handy; although it still felt difficult to instantly adapt to.

Once I reached the top of the first set of stairs, I glanced back down. Every step that I had taken had left a smeary blood stain behind. I cringed but continued on up the endless path.

This was going to take some time.

I panted as I reached my 50th set of stairs. There had been no doors. No rooms. Nothing but cold stairs on my way up.

I decided to sit on a step to regain a steady breath. This was the fastest my chest had ever moved. Up and down rapidly. I suppose it was vigorous work and quite vital for proper health condition, but I didn't need to exercise; my weight was retained by my medicine: the one I'd been soaked in for year after year. It had everything I ever needed. And it kept me alive. I didn't need food, or exercise, not even air for that matter. All I needed was lots of water and Professor's remedies to keep my heart pumping.

I grasped onto the freezing ramp and hoisted myself up from my brief rest. As I was about to start another heavy workout, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.

It was black and large. I twisted myself in its direction to analyze the mysterious object and shuffled towards it slowly.

It was a huge, gaping hole. A hole that covered half of the small-ish wall. It seemed to be made completely out of silver metal. And darkness filled it as far as the eye could see.

I leaned over and peered inside. Still nothing more could be seen but dark.

"Professor?", my voice echoed through the diagonally slanted tunnel. No answer came back to me, so I assumed it was only a trash shoot leading directly to a large bin.

"How ridiculous of me; no need for such panic," I giggled as I stepped back from the useless thing.

As I was about to turn to leave, two large hands suddenly grabbed me by the waist and restrained my arms behind my back. They choked my breath and I became unnaturally fearful.

"Professor?! Professor?! Help!", I shouted with sharp breaths of panic in between. Several tears left my eyes in a matter of seconds.

"Shhhh," he whispered into my frantic ear. I couldn't see him at all, but he seemed dangerous. And that was enough to get me jumpy and startled beyond belief.

"Please!" My legs kicked as I peered down at his arms. They were veiled with white sleeves and a dark red cloak; something the Professor would never choose to dress in. "Don't please!"

One of his hands let go as he held something up at my neck. It wasn't visible for me to see as my head had limited ability at the moment. His warm air brushed against my ear as he whispered alarming yet perplexing words to me.

"Here's to your last dose." His voice had a certain raspiness to it that made him indescribably terrifying.

A sudden shock of pain hit my neck as a needle was injected into my pure, untouched veins. I gasped in utter surprise while he let go of my body. It made me weak and dizzy so I couldn't run.

I was stuck, in the middle of nowhere.

"Cheers," he chortled in amusement from behind. Then, he pressed his fingers to my shoulder blades and gave me a small push. That was enough to trip me forward and make me go tumbling down into the metal vault of blackness.

My glossy skin slid across the surface with ease and gained more & more speed with every half second. All I could see was pitch black, and the wind that flew against my body made me even colder than ever before.

All that passed my mind was the Professor. Would I ever get to see him before my ruthless death? I closed my eyes tightly in hope that it might blind my view of what was to come.

The metal finally left my body as I plopped down onto the ground below.

I shook and shivered at the passing events; eyelids still firmly shut, arms hugging knees to my bare chest, face planted into a strange feeling substance beneath me.

I blinked my stiff eyes open hesitantly. Light filled them slowly as my vision adjusted.

Then, I saw it. Right there in front my eyes, what I could only dream about in my artificial tube. It couldn't be...

I sniffed it curiously taking in the fresh, unusual aroma.

But it was.

I had been pushed into a large bed of grass. I had landed, in the outside world.
