Prelude

She began as a triplet in the womb. A content within a large bump. And two others inside as well. They were healthy. No major complications during the pregnancy. That was, until the due week.

Felicity, the mother of the triplets, grew very ill with pneumonia five days before the planned birth date. She ignored the fever in hope that it was just a minor virus, but she soon found out that it was weakening her greatly. The father of the children was in the navy and unable to attend the labor. So instead of supporting her in other ways, he parted from her. She was left with almost no help. All other family members looked down upon her pregnancy and quit assisting her. She had no one apart from her best friend, Thomas. When she was sick, he tended to her. But her poor condition only escalated.

On the day of the birth, she was incredibly ailing. Thomas brought her into the hospital and waited eagerly as she gave birth. And when it was finally over the doctor came out with very unfortunate news. It was not shocking to Thomas but still difficult to fathom. Felicity had given birth to three living baby girls, identical triplets. The rarest of them all. Unfortunately, she had perished due to her terrible condition.

Thomas left that night in tears. He had nobody to love but her. Now that she was gone, he had no purpose in living. So he hung himself hours later. Felicity instructed the doctors to place the girls up for adoption if she were to pass that night. So the girls were sent off to a nurturing center to be displayed for adoption.

Dr. Port was a dedicated scientist. He worked profusely in his confidential underground laboratory and even in his apartment at times. In fact, his genius abilities and extensive toiling had split his long lasting relationship with his girlfriend, Kate. She claimed him to be mad after he had grown an extra appendage on a gerbil. He took almost no notice of the break-up until he had finally finished his projects. Once he acknowledged the world around him, he realized how extremely lonesome he felt without Kate. He would spend days on the couch dreading every minute that passed. Until one day, he had an idea.

He needed someone to care for. To love. He needed to be depended on. He needed, a child.

He strolled along the line of freshly wrapped newborns. They were all very different. Some long and wide, some short and thin. Some with dark skin, some pale as pure snow. More than half of them were crying, creating a ruckused room, and the other half at rest. But there was something that surprised Port, none of them caught his eye. They were all unsullied virgins but not a single baby he had come across seemed to acquire a noticeable special feature. He continued to view each baby carefully, until he over heard a couple whispering to each other.

"That one over there, see," a tall blonde woman pointed to a miniature cradle in the distance. Port followed her notion, spotting the child. He walked over to the newborn's cot in a slow pace. "Her name is Faye. I've heard that she's actually 3 years old but she was diagnosed with an insanely rare anti-aging disease. It prevents her from growing past a certain age. She was an identical triplet but sadly, the other two were adopted before her. They were in perfect health condition so they were sold quickly but her on the other hand. The adoptive parents of the other two stated that she would be too much time and money so it wasn't worth it. I feel bad for her. And her disorder will lead to a soon-to-arrive death, poor girl." The couple shook their heads in dismay and then moved to the next cradle.

Port approached the baby that they had been referencing and he noticed something unique about her. She had a diverse expression from all of the other children. She smiled lightly at him with two beautiful, blue eyes. She had light brown hair and a distinct personality. She appeared to look at him with curiosity. Very different from any other. He put a hand up close to her glass cover and to his surprise, her tiny palm lifted to the surface as well. That was the moment that he knew which child to select.

Port was an advanced scientist. Faye was a sick child.

An idea struck Port's mind. What if he could help sustain her bodily evolution? What if he could create a solution to her under-development with a renovating injection? Maybe not an injection, but a fluid. A medicine that could be absorbed through the skin. What if he could not only recondition her, but refine her body structure and abilities so that she could remain in superior health forever? Even more so than the average healthy human. He could create an improved personage form from a baby with deteriorating health issues.

He could provide an opportunity, to a girl without one.
