Chaper one
Outcast infant
Nearly midnight, the city was sound asleep. The sound of the forest and restless horses filled the air. That night, the sky was so clear that you could see many stars and distant constellations just hung there as if they were frozen in time. With the moon high in the night sky, wolves call to the goddess of the night hoping she will bring them food. A woman lays sleeping in a white gown, bearing a child. Still asleep she tugs at the bed sheets in pain. Covered in sweat; her head turns from side to side. She faintly kicks her feet and clenches her toes.
Woken by the uneased sounds of her pain the nurse in the other room runs out to see what's going on. Quickly she noticed it's not ordinary pregnancy pains she's been having. Trying not to wake her she runs out the front door to get the city's doctor, the first.
The first was the one who brought most kids into this world. With valuable time passing by he doesn't hesitate to react. Hearing the alarming scream of the woman he bursts though the door wearing a grey cloak with a hood; the darkess shielding his face. Noticing the blood soaked bed he realized she was in labor for a few minutes.
The first needs to act now. Once again she screams in agonizing pain. Her scream pierces the ears of the entire city. The four then walk into the room wearing the same thing as the first. they stood side by side to witness the birth.
The nurse pulled up a stool beside the woman. She grabs her hand and gets the woman's attention. The two start to breath in sync. At the same time the first knocks over a pot of lilys with a ragged roll of fabric. He lays it on the edge of the nightstand and unrolls it revealing three sergic knives, a spool of thead with a needle and thick yellow liquid in a flask.
The first then pulls back the table towards the end of the bed. He looks around the room for an extra stool laying around, there was none so he gets down on both knees and proceeds to guide the child out of the woman. At the same time he try's to comfort her by saying it'll be over soon.
After thirdly seconds he realizes that the child is sideways. He assumes the child can't breath so he was left with a worried look on his face.
He thought to himself "This one is not dying on me."
The nurse glances at the first and sees the look on his face. She worryingly asked "What's wrong, sir?"
The look of a worried man quickly left him and he glances at her angerly "Nothing! Now put her mind at ease! And don't let her look away!"
The nurse did as she was told because she was afraid to do otherwise. The woman was struck with panic due to the yelling. She looked at what the first was doing. Even though the nurse was persistent at getting her attention the woman quickly forgot the nurse was beside her.
With her talking into her ear all she could hear was the deep voice of the first, he was acting calm, like all was alright. "it's going to be okay, hang in there ma'am."
He reached for the yellow liquid and gently got up, uncorking the flask and dropping the cork on the table, he moved silently to her side and folded up her gown exposing her stomach.
The nurse gentaly placed her hand on the opposite side of her chin and slowly tuned her head towards her. She then smiled and said "Hey, your doing great miss. Just stay with me here. Breath in, out, in, out."
The first then slowly poured the liquid across her stomach, and lightly rubbed it on her stomach with his left hand. He places the flask down and picks up a sharpened sergic knife.
With his left hand slowly going numb he knows it's time to make the incision. He places his left hand below where the incision needs to be. The first then creates a strait cut. He sets the knife on the bed and proceeds to obtain the infant.
Setting the infant on the mother and begins cutting off his ambelical cord as his insides start to turn. He tells the nurse to get a blanket as he places the bloody knife into the kit.
She nodes with agreement and tells the woman it's all done and she can rest. She gets up and rushes to the laundry basket in the back and picks out a ragged dark blue blanket. She rushes back to the first and he hands her the newborn in anger.
Not looking at the child, the nurse curiously asks "What's the matter, sir?" As she was asking she tightly wrapped the child in the blanket.
The first replies "It's a complete and utter abomination!" He started raising his voice "not just once, but twice!"
The nurse replied "once what? sir?"
"Silence!" He commanded looking right into her eyes.
A cold chill ran down her spine as she sat back down to comfort the woman. "It's alright ma'am, he's just in a bad mood cuz I woke him up from only sleeping a few hours." As she spoke she handed the newborn to his mother.
The first snapped at her "It's not alright!"
The thirds voice was barely heard from the back "be quiet, there's still hope with this one."
The first turned over to his tools and put it all back in order. "No!" He quietly said "it's forto-"
he was interrupted by the third as she spoke louder "it's foretold there is a good and bad outcome, depending on how he's raised."
As she was talking the first tossed the supply kit to the nurse as he was walking to the three others "fix her up, yeah?"
"Yes sir!" She answered catching the medical tools.
He then turned back towards the third "depending on what? How he's raised? That never turns out the way we want!"
As the four argue back and forth the nurse finished sowing up her stomach with the firsts supplies she set out on the nightstand beside her.
With the child still crying in his mothers armed she quietly apologizes to him for what's she's about to do. "All of you silence! This is my child and I'll decide what happens to him! And I swear to god if any harm comes to him you'll regret it." Her voice had more authority in those two sentences then how much the counsel has altogether.
The four fell silent and turned to face her. They waited a moment for anything else she had to say before asking "what do you have in mind?"
The woman demanded "nothing is to happen to my child." They all nodded with agreement and left one by one.
The mother looked down at her baby with tears in her eyes as she sang the child a lullaby to calm him down "hush my child, don't you cry, for one day you will be a king, and kings don't cry so don't you shed a tear. Hush my child, don't you cry, for you have nothing to cry about, for you have nothing to fear. Hush my child, don't you cry, for I will always be there for you." As she slowly sang, her voice echoed in her child's ears as if she was an angel.
As her sons eyes open the nurse says with joy "aww look at that. He clearly knows who his mother is."
Seeing his mother for the first time he became curious. His big blue eyes looking at her while her brown eyes look at him, he reaches for her face. His right arm stood out, from his finger tips to his chest was dark red. His forearm having three bones sticking out, one larger then the other as they get closer to his elbow. His mother smiles and lets out a faint laugh.
"He has your lips and dark hair." The nurse said quietly. His mother turned to her and agreed. "He's such a cutie with his chubby cheeks." She paused for moment. "I just wanna eat him!" She laughed and added "what are you going to name him?"
His mother smiles and whispered "teck." Teck lays quietly in his mothers arms not knowing where he is.
"Well." The nurse places her hand on the mothers shoulder. "You should get some rest for tomorrow. I'll be in the other room, yell if you need me alright?"
Tecks mother looked at her and smiled with a tear running down her cheek "alright." As the nurse walks away she adds "thanks for everything."
Two hours after twilight the city was silent once more. Tecks mother tucked him beside her making sure he was safe and warm. Tuckered out; the mother quickly fell asleep. Teck layed awake looking out the window and up at the beautiful night sky. He turned to look at his a sleeping mother who just went through so much and yet through his eyes looks like an angel. Teck soon falls asleep, for he has a long journey ahead of him.
