Chapter four
Is this stealing?
I can still see her face. As she stands there at the doorway waiting for me to wake. I can see her smile, hear her voice. It pains me to know she's no longer by my side. As I tilt my head back to drink the last drop of water from my canteen I shed a tear. Sometimes I feel like to climb to the top of the bell tower and jump.
"I've been sitting here to long" I thought to myself. "they would be here-" the sound of a low roaring thunder shakes the ground. I sat frozen as a dozen horses and thieves pass me by. Good thing Teck was as small as he was or the rock he hid behind would have had a head and his cover would have been gone a while ago. "Wait." He whispered as a seven more thieves pass by with backpacks full of loot. "patience." The stragglers are coming up slow and steady. "Just a little more."
The sound dyed down to only twelve hooves thumping across the ground. Silently Teck rolled out of cover and slashed one of the horses legs clean off. The horse fell with a thud and slid along the dirt nearly shredding the riders leg into mince meat. The rider laid on the chilling ground out cold. Teck swiftly swung his blade up into the approaching horses neck. Blood squirted into Tecks mouth as it passed him by. The other rider fled into the forest. Teck looked over to the carnage and saw one of the horses attempting to get up but was missing a leg. The rider laid silently. Teck walked over to take whatever he could. He rolled the rider over and took off his backpack full of gold. He tossed it to the side and walked over to the other. A leg stuck out from under the horse. A puddle of blood soaked the horses head. As he looked over the horse he saw a man and a little girl. No more then five. She was dazed and confused. Her father, dead, eyes left open and bleeding from the temple.
