The sound of screaming people and crumbling buildings filled the gloomy day as the war dragged on. I sat in my basement wishing for it to stop. It's been going on for a year non-stop and our village is next on the list of planned attacks. My father and I knew the attack would be within a week. I've already lost my mother, my father never fought in the war because he wanted to take care of me since my mother was stubborn when it came down to doing what's right. To her, fighting in the war was the best she could do for the village. I miss her everyday. I swear I can hear her voice sometimes say I love you before I fall asleep.
I was writing in my journal when my father came racing in. "The gates are broken into, we have to leave!" He yells. I quickly grab my stuff and ask "Where to?" "There's a village that welcomes both humans and nonhumans about a 2 day horse ride south. You can ride Rose Dapple and I can take Cadoc." He says as he grabs what he can. "Alright, let's hurry." I reply.
After we grab our stuff we head to the stables using a back pathway. The screams of adults and innocent children reached my ears and tears started to form in my eyes. I hated leaving the village behind, but I had to survive. I go to get Rose Dapple, a grey horse with light grey spots, from her pen. As soon as we are both ready we ride as fast as we can southward.
