The ride south was going fine so far, but I could see a mountain chain in the distance that we would need to cross. It was almost dusk by the time we reach the base of it. "Let's stop here for the night." I hear my dad say as we slow down. "Alright." I reply. We take our supplies off our horses and Dad leaves to collect firewood. There was no forest in sight so it would be a little while until he would be back. I sit down and look at my surroundings. I can hear birds chirping as they peck at the ground hoping to find a juicy worm. I wish the world would be as peaceful as this, just blissfully living in peace.
After about an hour I start to wonder where my dad is. I decide to start walking in the direction he went hoping to run into him on his way back. As I walk away I feel as if I'm being watched. I look towards the river. I see a splash as a fin pops out of water. I assume it's a curious fish and continue on my way. I continue walking a few steps and see my dad running towards me at full speed. I instantly bolt back to the horses and pack up the supplies assuming that we would leave in a rush. My dad comes up to me gasping for air. "There's....a.....war party.....behind us" He tells me. Once he gets his breath back he tells me they would be able to see us in about an half and hour. Once we finish loading the supplies we hop on our horses and head towards the mountain looking for a way up.
In the darkness we were able to spot a path straight to the top. Once we reached the top, my dad hurried down since it was hard to breathe because of the oxygen. I looked to my left and see the torches of the war party as they trudged there way to the mountain. I look to my right and see the light of a village in the distance. Knowing the war party was heading to the village, I pull out my wand of levitation and cause a small rock avalanche to block part of the path. Once I'm satisfied with what I've done, I race Rose Dapple down the mountain.
When I meet my dad at the bottom we make our way towards the village. I sense a person with fire abilities as we get closer. My stomach churns as I think of what could go wrong. It only adds to my anxiety of going to a brand new village. I could tell that Rose Dapple needed a break considering that she was going slower. I tell her to hold on a bit longer and we keep riding.
By the time I hear the village's horns go off signaling our arrival, it's already dawn. I realized that I'm greeted by not one, but two fire-beings at the front gate. I swallow my nerves and prepare myself for anything that might happen.
