Chapter 25

-Petra

I waited outside the tree house for him. He told me that he was going to bring me something.

  When he finally appeared, he had Reuben beside him and he was also carrying a box in his right hand. "Hey Jones." I said and pulled off my earpieces.

  "Hey Petra..." he held up a hand as he tried to catch his breath. I smiled. Reuben barked to say hello and I patted him. "Mornin'" I said and he smiled as well. 

  "Anyway. I'm not good with greetings so... I made this for you." he said and handed me the box. I gently took it and rubbed my fingers on the ribbon.  "You didn't have to get me anything. Its not any event." I replied and he shrugged. 

  "Open it." he said and I did. Inside was a beautiful feather. A feather with a golden chain. A necklace. And it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

  "Jesse." I said and he smiled bashfully. I looked at him and his green eyes. His beautiful green eyes. "Is it okay? I mean..." he stammered and I laughed. "It's beautiful." I replied and he stepped back a little, still smiling bashfully.

We sat in the tree house and I decided to ask her. I had planned it in my head the whole time last night. 

  As she fingered the feather, she looked at me again, her dark eyes beautiful and deep. Like the eye of a hurricane, calm. 

  "Jesse?" she asked and I nodded. "Can you... help me?" she asked and held out the necklace. 

  I planned this scene in my head millions of times. I sat behind her and carefully fastened the clasp. I think she could feel my hands shaking nervously or something because she took my hands and smiled at me. 

  "Petra... um..." I said softly and she nodded. "I... I really like you and you're my best friend. You light up my life and..." I took a shaky breath as she smiled wider. 

  "Sorry I suck at sentiments..." I babbled and she held up a hand. "I really like you too Jones." she said and I went for it.

  "Petra... will you be my girlfriend?"
