Brice's Pov

"Is my tea ready Quincy?" I asked her as I fix my collar. It was midnight and I couldn't really sleep.

How can I even sleep when I know there are paper works waiting for me? I never once thought that a prince duties would be this hard.

"Yes your high-"

"Ahem," I fakely coughed and looked at her. I never really liked the thought of being called "your highness" or "Sir Brice" it makes me feel superior than my maid and servants.

I'm not really quite used to it.

"Brice," she quickly corrected and set the tea on the table. I thanked her and take a sip of my tea.

I quickly heard some ruckus and stared outside. I saw the earl walking down the stairs with his cane and his butler on the side.

Really? Again? Augustus, I'm not in the mood to scold you again.

I sighed and sip my tea. This earl would never learn.

"Nicholas, please prepare my tea. Now," Augustus said as he quickly went inside the dining room. I sat there, glaring at him.

"Oh, it's you. What do you wa-"

"I order you to be respectful to your butler,"

"You can't tell me what to do Brice!"

"I'm the prince. You should obey me!" I quickly said as I crossed my arms.

Nicholas stood there, respectfully leaving our argument. He looked at his master then back at me.

"Nicholas, fetch my tea-"

"Nicholas, please assist Quincy on the kitchen," I said as the earl glared at me.

I cannot simply see Nicholas being treated that way. I don't even know why he is following that psychotic brat.

"Augustus, why are you forcing your butler to do the stuff that my maid can? Are you out of your mind?!"

"Because he has a debt to pay!" He said as I scoffed.

"Just because of a debt?! You're rich Augustus! You don't need to force someone to pay a-"

"My lord, I have to pay for my own life," Nicholas interrupted.

I looked at him confusingly and Augustus started talking once again. What a nuinsance. He can't keep his rank to himself. I'm even wondering how my mother made her decision to make Augustus as her subordinate.

"I saved him from the assassination day. You remember that Brice! You were there!"

"I was there! Don't you dare raise your voice on me! You save Nicholas, I saved you!"

"Bloody hell! You didn't save us! I saved ours and ours only! You saved your precious little sister and let us be!"

"Augustus, will you keep your voice down?!"

"Why should I?! See? You can't even say something about it!"

"Will you both shut up?!" I heard someone yelling from upstairs.

Navii.

I quickly stood up and pointed at his chest.

"This is all your fault," I said as I quickly went upstairs to retrieve my sister.

I saw her standing there with her arms crossed as she went down the stairs. I quickly sighed as she ignores me and went to the kitchen.

Sometimes, the earl can be quite stubborn. Be glad that my parents aren't here Augustus.

If they were, you'd be taking your final step of being an earl.

Nicholas' Pov

I looked at the earl as I quickly bowed to him. I cannot disobey any of them at all.

Brice is a prince. His rank is much more superior than the earl. His parents could easily outrank the earl.

Brice also saved me from the sniper. If it weren't for him, me and the earl would've probably dead by now.

Though, I cannot also disobey my master. He was the one who saved me from the man who almost killed me. I owe my life to him.

Suddenly, I heard stomping coming from down the halls. I saw Princess Navii glaring at the earl and quickly crosses her arms.

"Augustus! Darling, why were you fighting with my brother?" I suddenly tried not to laugh as the earl quickly cringes at the thought of him being called darling.

"Uh, sweetie, we've gotten a little bit of a misunderstanding," the earl said as I chuckled.

He was forced to be nice while the princess is here. He's like a doll being dragged by a girl. Puppet to be exact.

Brice went to join the conversation but I told him not to say a word. He quickly nodded and went to stare.

The earl quickly glared at me and cleared his throat. I'm very sure that he was annoyed at this so I smirked.

"Uh, sweetie, why don't you go back to bed? I'll be there soon," I quickly went to assist Quincy to avoid laughing infront of the earl and the prince.

I have to admit, the earl is hopeless when his so-called-princess is here. He could not simply break the engagement since the king and queen isn't here.

Quincy looked at me as she dusted off her clothes.

"What's wrong Nicholas?"

"Nothing. I just came here to ask where Anne's room is," I said as I genuinely smiled at her.

She nodded and walks away. She quickly mentions me to follow her, so, I did.

She pointed at the door a few doors away from my room and then quickly left.

I knocked softly at her door, waiting for a response. Nothing.

"Anne, are you there? Please open the door. It's Nicholas," I said as I heard a soft "Come in"

I twisted the doorknob and went inside. I saw her holding a letter with a royal design. She was softly sobbing as her hands shook from rereading the letter.

I quickly went to hug her as she cried.

"What's wrong my lady?" I asked her as she shook her head.

"The queen and king, they-" she started sobbing and pointed at the letter.

I went to read the letter as my eyes widen.

To Prince Brice Winston,

We are truly sorry for your loss. Your parents have been assassinated at the Gruyéres at exactly 4:00 pm. We are still investigating the crime and would wait for your call.

Your father had signed a contract to give you the throne at the age of 21. I hope you truly understand this. We are deeply sorry for this and would like to know your utter response. Mein Beileid.
