When my eyes opened, the sun was rising and I was lying on my bed, still in the jeans and black hoodie I wore at school. How much did I sleep? The digital clock by my bedside answered my question and I felt even more confused when I saw the flashing red numbers. It was 7:05.I had slept about 16-17 hours, making me miss almost a whole day,but the worst part was the fact that I couldn't hear my family doing their usual morning chores around the house. My first attempt to get out of bed gave me a headrush and everything went black so I just cursed under my breath.
"Mom!" I yelled. No one answered me.
"Dad!Sammuel!Thomas!" I called for my father and brothers.Nothing.
When everything was clear once again,I ran out of my room and my heart sank when I realised that no one was here with me.My parents weren't in the kitchen, drinking their coffee,as they do every morning before they go to work.My brothers weren't watching the morning news in the living room.
Where are they?Did they stay at grandma's house for the night? You have to check, said a little voice in my head as I was pressing buttons on the telephone.I waited for about 30 seconds before I realised that my calls were in vain.I had to be at school by 8 o'clock, however I promised myself I wouldn't step out of the house until I had figured out where my family was.
I tried to shake the grim thoughts that were settling in my head but my impatience still grew with every passing second. The only sounds were my breathing and the ticking of the clock. Finally, the phone rang and I hurried to answer.
"Yeah?"
"Alaska!Alaska, where are you?" my mother's panicked voice prepared me for the worst.
"Home, why?Where are you?Is everybody fine?" Maybe they had a car accident and my stomach twisted in response to that thought.
"Listen to me,i don't have much time!No questions. You have to get out of there. You have to run,on your own!Get out of town!NOW!"
"What are you talking about?!"
"RUN ALASKA!" she screamed at me,frantically. The next sound I heard from the other end of the line will haunt me till the day I die.A growl, like a rabid animal, sent chills down my spine.
Then,I hear my mother screaming in complete agony, like she was tortured to death, while the growls accompany her cries.
And at last,a silence so heavy I feared that it would crush me to pieces.
