"He threw a knife at you?"
Gregory was in complete and utter shock after I told him what happened last night.I wasn't sure if I could trust him given that I knew the man only a few days.If there was one thing I was sure of was that we were not allowed to wander through the base at late hours and without permission,a rule which I had broken on my first night here.Nevertheless,I decided to take the risk and confess everything to him.The chance appeared when he decided to show me where the dining hall was so I could take my breakfast this morning along with everyone else.
"Well,he didn't throw it at me...He aimed for the wall.Or he aimed for my head and missed, who knows."
He shot me a really serious look that made me stop talking immediately.
"I'm going to report him.Maybe we should keep him in the hospital ward."
"NO!"
"Why not?He threatened you!"
"If you do report him,he'll know it was my fault!"
"So?"
"He will use me as his punchbag!"
"Like I'll let him anywhere near you."
People being protective over me was something I was used to for the last 17 years. No,that wasn't the factor that made my jaw drop. The people that always took care of me were my brothers and parents.Never a stranger.I tried to collect myself before speaking again.
"Well, you know what? When the opportunity arises...Maybe I'll hit him on the head with his sword and then we're even." was my only idea.
"Don't you ever get tired of acting like you are so relaxed about everything?"
I avoided to answer the question by pretending that I was checking on my schedule, when in fact I had it memorized.
"Okay, the topic is off the table." I concluded after a long period of uncomfortable silence. He just sighed and I took a good look at him.He looked far younger since I saw him on the helicopter.Maybe it was my confusion back then that made him look older.
"How old are you?"
"Twenty five.Why?"
Twenty five, the words echoed in my mind.He is too young to be occupying himself with war and military. He is an adult but still, twenty five year olds are supposed to be out there and having a good time.My father had told me that these were the most carefree years of his life. And while my father at his early twenties was making friends and having fun,Gregory was locked up in a military base, joining forces with a bunch of rebels, dedicating his whole life to this purpose. He shouldn't be here.Actually, our government shouldn't be so oppressing in the first place as to cause people plotting against it.
It all comes down to the government, doesn't it?The world has gone to the dogs.
"Nothing, just making small talk.Let's go get some breakfast."
We shared an awkward silence as we began walking towards the dining hall.It wasn't until we passed a group of guards who were trying to get an old man to follow them, that I decided to speak.
"Where are they taking him?"
"You don't want to know."
"Where are they taking him?" I insisted.People thinking I couldn't handle the truth always angered me.
"He a senile dementia sufferer."
"Are they taking him to the hospital ward?"
"No.He is gonna be put to death."
