I pack all my clothes in a bag and run downstairs. Brandon goes out first and brings me to the closet supermarket. He gets enough to live throughout an apocalypse and the he brings me to a new and clean subway station. He gets two tickets for a fun ride to crazy town.
-How? My eyes gazing at his turquoise eyes.
-What? At the same time his eyes shift back to the blue I'm used to see.
-How did you go from down to up in a second?
-The diamonds are linked, I can be anywhere you are and you can be anywhere I am.
-So let's say I'm at the bathroom, you can just click on that thing of yours and pop up in my face.
-Pretty much.
-Please don't do that.
-Sure.
The rest of the ride was pretty silent. We got off in the middle of nowhere-ville and he brought me to a humongous house that looks like a castle. Literally. We go in and I realize this might be a castle. Why didn't I move here instead of the other crappy house? He takes my bags are throws them on a table and then leads me to a couch where he asks me to sit. He takes out a book and some chalk. He puts the book on the table and draws a circle of chalk on a weird black plate. I hope this is not voodoo. I am not doing voodoo. I feel my face dazed as I see him wright gibberish on the black plate that looks more of a carpet now. I recognized some signs from those supernatural demon and ghost movies but I can't make out the rest. He opens the books and reads. The more he reads the more it makes sense. This is some kind of summoning and for a reason I can make out the words he's saying and understand them.
-I praise to the, we have found the light. I praise to the, it has not been stolen. We seek for the guardian, as it shall rise. I praise to the, guide the light to guide us. Brandon spat those words in a way to fast monochrome voice and I just sat there thinking about potatoes and their cruel fate of being eaten. Why must I think of potatoes in this time of strangeness?
-So... What was all that? Who is THE in question?
-Me calling for your guardian so you don't get killed like a 3 years old kid. His expression was too serious to be read.
-All that gibberish for nothing? I gazed at him seeing his eyes change to a mighty strange purple green.
-I didn't do anything! He shouts and I feel myself crumble to pieces as the Brandon I knew leaves for a new one to take place.
I start for the door when I decide to get food for a reconfortment after the following events. I decide to go straight ahead and open a brown wooden door. I walk into a dark room and there stands before me three more doors. I'm feeling like I’m in the movie Inception. I decide to take the far right one and the door is unfortunately locked. I take the middle one and open the door. I don't have time to analyse my surroundings when I already realise that the room should have been locked too. The walls are carbon black. Candles can barely light the room enough for me to make out the figures of pots filled with multiple bones. My curiosity gaining over my body, I walk towards the middle bowl. I can distinguish a head. A human head. My hearts beats and I rush out of the room faster than I could think. As a reflex I go to Brandon. My mind spinning, I find him cleaning his voodoo session.
-Are you ok? He says catching a glimpse of my worried expression.
-You... Have.. A... I exclaim trying to catch my breath while pointing my finger to the door.
-I have what? Where did you go? He says with small traces of worry showing on his neutral expression.
-The room... Black... Skulls... I say trying to make sense of the storm rushing in my head.
-Yes? What about them? He says looking at me as you would look at a child trying to tell you he lost his imaginary friend.
-YOU HAVE FREAKIN HUMAN SKULLS IN YOUR HOUSE! I spit trying to make sense of my life.
He comes towards me as I feel my eyes fill with tears. For the first time I feel the pain of the truth. My parents are dead. My life is unexplainable.
I let a few tears stream and turn. I walk pass the front door and run. My mind a mess, I decide to block any exterior noises. I don't care where I'll end up. For a moment it feels that if I run fast I'll go to the past. With my parents. Happy... Healthy. Not so far from is a forest. I run straight in it wishing I’d die. Get lost, or get eaten by a creature. My emotions locked in a safe with a lost key.
When I step into a wide crop field I see nothing but corn stalks after corn stalks. My expression is unreadable, something between sadness and loss and confusion. I regret nothing of running away from what must have seen my new safe place. I hesitate before turning around, only to be facing a wall. Is it just me or a few seconds ago it was a forest? I turn back and there stands before me another wall.
Rule number one: never turn your back.
Even if turning seems the choice you stay put. This can only be the work of witch I tell myself trying to push the wall. I hear kids giggle that end up bursting into a dark laugher. I turn around only that the walls start coming towards me. My hearts gains an impossible speed as I let a painful groan out.
-HELP! I scream at the top of my lungs only to have the kids say help in a menacing way.
-Why would you want help? Momma says I need friends. You'll be my friend. Forever and ever and ever. Said the kid's voice, the words resonating in my head.
-Let me out and I'll play with you. I exclaimed too fast to trick the kid.
-No. You play with me now. We will play ... I kill you. First one to die loses. Said the kid in a happy dark mysterious tone.
-How about you give me a head start? I tried so hard to trick the untricklabe kid.
-Why would I do that? In the position you are in I can finish and win the game just as well! Hahahaha. yet he wouldn't let me go. I was the lion in the cage.
-I'll tell your mommy you're being mean if you don't let me out.
-The only thing you'll be needing out is my soul. Hahahaha. he said as I felt an astonishing pain in my chest. I could feel this force gaining over my body. Something I couldn't explain.
My whole body shivered in pain as the unfriendly child took power of me. The walls disappeared and I could feel my body walk to the forest I came in. Only I wasn't ordering my body to move. Are you having fun now? Do you still want Momma to punish me? His voice was controlling my thoughts and I tried as hard as I could to control my body. There was nothing to do.
As I went further in the forest I could hear footsteps. Not sure if they were mine as I had been blinded by that stupid kid, I let my thoughts rest for a minute.
-Hey! There you are. That familiar tone sent me cheering as it could only be our jock of the year.
-I got lost. Bring me back home. I want cookies, just like Momma promised. I hissed clasping my hands on my mouth as the kid talk with my mouth. My mouth his words.
-Are you ok Vanessa?
-No.... I mean yes, Vanessa is very ok. I had put all my energy just to let out that weak no, and there goes the kid ruining all my efforts.
- What's my name Vanessa?
-What's his name Vanessa? Oh wait I didn't mean that, memory blank.
-Ok... let's go then. Lead the way.
-Wait, I'm lost... can't you lead the way?
That’s when I felt pain. Worst than anything I ever felt before. It was the pain...
...What pain?
