My life is under my one thumb, and I have to be careful not to crush it.
I could go around the corner singing every day, or I could live like everyone else and, and be depressed and dark, either way, emotions are part of people.
Now despite the scary mess of my strength and thumb, I have been as light as a feather this week. It's a beautiful Wednesday and Avery, Lynn, and I have a school community meeting during lunch. We talked mostly about upcoming events, but one caught all three of our eyes...
the Back to School Dance
We immediately looked at each other and volunteered to be on the school dance committee.
The Back to School Dance is the most significant event of the year and the most important.
After all, it's a great place to get asked to dance in a romantic fashion, or in another case spike the punch, letting the rest of the school get buzzed, and the teachers get pissed.
After a long day at school, Avery and Lynn came over to my house to work on the dance.
Avery planned the theme and place, Lynn prepared food, tickets, and sponsors, and I worried about everything else: Being in charge. Plus I like being in control and perfecting everything to be my way.
That's when Laila Brochet walked in my doorLaila Brochet
- Pretty
- Important
- And VERY rich
Her dad is the school financial donor who works at a large Law Firm in West Sacramento. So it only makes sense for her to come in and take the lead, but she tends to take things over, and that is not in my comfort zone.
I told her to come in and take a seat, with regret as an aftertaste. She looked at me, then my friends, then at me again.
I felt as awkward as watching a kissing scene with your parents in the same room and you know they're looking at you to see how you would react. I patted the seat with a smile, and she rolled her eyes as she sat down.I swear it's like in elementary school she was this giant nerd and then over summer she bloomed into this... this, big lipped hot body model. Okay, I know what your thinking "Wow, she must be jealous," and what I say to that is yes, I am.
Not only that she is, Laila Brochet, she also has a 4.0 and can get into any college she wants, that is if she even wants to; but what can you do.
She finally wanted to see what we were working on and I showed her my notes and sketches. She then got up and looked at me, "Is this it?" She flipped the page over, it was blank, "Okay then, we have a lot of work ahead of us." She squeezed her way to the desk, and we brainstormed...all night... no stopping.
I had some problems with her taking over, but from what I was seeing, she had a lot of good ideas.
But like they say "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" and that's precisely what I did.By the next morning, we had the whole night planned out, how much it was going to cost, and how much we had to do the following day. So we split up.
We all had jobs, Avery and Lynn went to get the food, decorations, venue, and tickets. Laila and I had to get the rest of the volunteer committee to help with the site.
We made sketches of the place and sent drafts to everyone. After we finished, we went to The Elephant Shack, a diner that opened up a few years ago, that I love and apparently so does Laila.
We walked up to the counter and got a table; I ordered the Belgian Waffle and a side of fried chicken when the waitress came.
Laila looked at me then to the waitress and said "You know what? That sounds good I'll have the same, but with a vanilla milkshake." She looked at me again "Today's my cheat day, plus I have a speedy metabolism."
Why can't I have a fast metabolism? "So, anything new or interesting happen lately?" I was trying to make conversation seeing as she wasn't.
"Nope, not much." She replied with bored-ness devouring her face.
"Really? No family drama, relationships?" She moved her eyes from her perfect nails to me and smiled a devious smile. "Why? Do you have any news on... relationships?" I darted my eyes around quickly trying to think of something to say, but all I came up with was a simple
"No," I had to do some improv... Crap! Why didn't I take theatre! "I was just- I mean I didn't- aren't you just- ugh!" She laughed, just laughed, I hated her at that moment; but before she was able to say anything our food was at our table. "Wow, that was quick!" She said while simultaneously stuffing her mouth with food.As I watched her down her meal, Avery and Lynn walked in and sat down with us, and as I watched us all laugh and made jokes I realized, was there something in the relationship area for me? With maybe Adrian? Who knows, but right now I felt happy and simple, and nothing was going to change that.
