Chapter seven

Joey's POV

"On her 18th year of life, she will meet her soulmate. He will be brave and strong, he will be her protector but not her true soulmate. The one to steal her heart is her enemy, and the cause of her downfall..." Riley says reciting the prophecy.

It takes a moment before what this means sinks in. I'm not her real mate, Eli is her real mate. I start shaking and to hide it from Thalia I get up and leave. I stand outside the door for a few seconds, but when she starts crying it's to much for me. I turn and run away from the door.

I run outside and shift into my blonde wolf. I run for miles upon miles until I reach the highway. No one uses 'Wolf highway' except werewolves, so I was safe in wolf form.

I walked down the highway for a couple minuets before I sat down and placed my head in my paws. Not even a second later the sweat scent of my mate hit me. I stand up and follow the scent, but it seems like it's following me. The scent got stronger every half step I took.

All of a sudden a light blue Chevy was barreling down the road towards me. I could see Thalia sitting in the back seat, while Riley and Trent sat in the front. I jump into the middle of the road so they have to hit the brakes. When they stopped they were an inch away from my nose.

Thalia bolted out of the car and to my side. She crouched next to me and petted my fur. I purred in happiness at my mates touch. "God, Joey! Don't do that! You could've been hurt, or worse, killed even!" Thalia shouts. I whimper and nod my head. "Good boy..." She whispers as Trent gets out of the car.

"Thalia we've got to go. Just get him to move out of our way." He says. I growl at him and step in front of Thalia. Trent bows his head and shows me his neck, submitting to me. I still growl at him. I look at Thalia and bite her jacket. She takes it off and hand it to me.

I shift and put the jacket around my waist. "You can keep that..." Thalia mutters. I smirk to myself and face Trent. "Nobody is taking her anywhere. She's my mate, she's staying with me." I say using my alpha tone. "You left her alone crying. It seemed like you didn't want her around anymore." Trent starts yelling. "Don't disrespect me, boy!" I shout stepping closer.

Trent takes a step closer. Now our chest were basically touching. "Or what?" He challenges. I growl and start shaking. The next thing I know I'm on all fours staring at a black wolf.

Trent's eyes were pitch black and I'm pretty sure mine are too. Trent walks with a prowess that only an alpha can have, or someone with alpha blood. His wolf is smaller than mine because I actually am an alpha.

Trent launches at me and snaps at my front legs. He nicks my left one before I kick him away. He rolls on his back but gets up. My leg is bleeding slightly, now. I run to Trent's left and pounce on him. I land on him but he gets his back legs on my stomach and pushes me off him. I tumble backwards and that's when Thalia steps between us.

"Stop! Trent go back home with Riley, I'm staying with my mate." Thalia says. Trent growls at her and starts walking towards her. I step beside her and bark at him.

Wait, I just barked?

Trent stops in his tracks with his mouth slack. He breaks into a wolfy grin. He turns away and goes to the other side of the truck. He comes back a few seconds later in basketball shorts.

"I'll see you around, Thalia. Phone us when you can. Your still my big sister." Trent says coming up to us. He hugs Thalia and takes a deep breath. "I expect to see you soon. I still need to meet your mate. I don't even know her name, tell me!" Thalia says. "Ryan lied to you. I haven't met her yet." Trent explains.
