Prolouge

Eli's POV

"Happy eighth birthday Jason!" I hear from behind me. I turn and see the long brown hair of his best friend, Sophie, hanging over his shoulder. I hear his laughter and smile to myself. My little boy is growing up so quickly, I thought to myself.

"Hey, dad, can I go to Sophie's house before the party? Please?" Jason asks me while pulling on my pants. I nod my head smiling down at him. "Thanks dad. I won't be late, promise!" He shouts over his shoulder while running with Sophie.

"You know Thalia would be proud of you and Jason." Dimitri says coming up behind me. I look over at him and see his youngest son in his arms. His mate, Terrie, was standing next to him talking to another pack member.

"I know she would be... I still can't believe tomorrow is the eighth annerversary of her death." I say shaking my head.

"And yet you still haven't burried her or anything. You know you need to. Jason doesn't like seeing you so depressed all the time. He thinks burrying her would be good for you."

"That means moving on and I'm not ready to move on yet."

"Jason needs you to move on." Dimitri says before turning to Tracie and pulling her away with him.

Later that night after jason's birthday party I was downstairs cleaning up. Jason was out playing with Sophie and another friend of his, Adam. I could hear them faintly talking out in the woods but couldn't see them.

I put the last of the garbage in the trashcan and went to sit on the front porch. I sat on the top step and listened to the bugs buzz. It was getting quite boring until Adam and Sophie came running out of the forest screaming about a black and grey wolf.

"Where is Jason?" I ask them quickly.

"The wolf had him. He told us to go and get help. He told us to find you!" Sophie says starting to cry.

"Go inside!" I shout at them before shifting into my wolf and running into the forest, following Sophie's scent. I heard Jason talking before I even reached him.

"My dad is going to rip your throat out when he gets here. You'll see." Jason says. I can see him now. He is standing in front of a wolf with his back to a tree. The wolf gives of a gruff huff which I'm assuming is a laugh. I growl from where I am and come out of the trees. The other wolf looks at me and I see my brothers eyes. This wolf is Jordan.

My wolf completly takes over and I lunge at Jordan's throat. He shiftly moves out of my way and I fall into the trees again. I turn and stalk him for a moment before I hear Jason cheering for me. I turn my head sharply at him and growl in a warning to get home. Jordan takes the opportunity and goes for my neck. He latches onto it and bites. I try to wrestle my way out and manage a little leverage when I push against his front legs. He releases me and steps back.

'Go home...tell Dimitri about Jordan...' I mindlink Jason in that split second. Jason just stands still and glares at Jordan, starting to shake. Before my eyes I see my eight year old son turn into a gray wolf with blonde paws and ears.

Jason treks towards Jordan and pounces on his head, racking his claws into Jordan's eyes. Jordan howls and throws Jason off him. Jason just bounces back up and runs at him, this time with me by his side. Jason veres to his right and I go head on and get a latch on his throat while he's distracted by Jason's attacks. I hold on until Jordan's body goes limp. I release my hold and watch him shift into human form.

I look over at Jason and see he has shifted back into his human form. I shift, myself, and grab Jason giving him a big hug.

"I'm so proud of you Jason!" I say to him.

"Thanks Papa! Now let's get home so I can go tell Sophie I shifted!" Jason says running off towards the house.
