Present- 2017

Everything I did was to make my parents proud. Getting into The Ohio State University was no easy feat but when I did and completed my degree it just didn't seem enough for them.

My parents Edward and Allison London, CEO's and founder of London Communication International, Shipping International, and etc. They tried to groom me from the very beginning. At first when I was little, I was very invested in their views. That was until I went with them on one of their business trips. I went with them to London, England; one of their big shipping cities. While they were in meetings, I was with my sweet nanny, Mrs. Holland. She was a sweet, short, older lady with brown hair that had grey streaks throughout. Whenever she smiled, which was all the time around me; she had crinkles around her eyes.

She thought it would be a good idea to take me to the British Museum so I could study while I was away. Being a ten-year-old who was still inquisitive, it seemed like a fun idea and a great way for me to get out of studying business articles. As soon as we stepped inside, I was hooked. Seeing all the history that I only read about inspired me. With each time period and artifact that I was introduced to only solidified the fact that discovering history and the unknown was my true calling.

Suffice it to say, when we returned home and I turned in my business lessons for history lessons, did not bode well for my parents. My parents who have spent the last five years of my childhood grooming me to take over for them did not take it well. They never said it but I could tell they were disappointed in my decision.

It was shortly after that they tried for another child and succeeded when I was thirteen. My parents were well into their forties, but didn't seem like a day over twenty-five. When they bought home my baby brother, I thought all would go well, they would forgive me and figure out that we were children and not a job to raise. That didn't really happen. They started to groom my brother, Adam; when he was five as well. Sending him to the best schools and getting the best nannies to take care of him. While they were controlling his life, they were still trying to change my mind about mine.

When I told them I wanted to become an archeologist, they were disappointed. They wanted me to go to Harvard, with my grades and activates, I would've gotten in, but that wasn't what I wanted.  Mrs. Holland, who was no longer employed with us, went to The Ohio State University, and since she felt more like a parent and encouraged my dreams, I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Even though she doesn't work for my parents anymore I still talk to her.

When I was accepted, Mrs. Holland and her family were thrilled. My parents not so much. My brother was still too young to understand but he seemed impressed. I was still trying to make it up to my parents so they wouldn't resent me, I went with them to business parties and luncheons to show how much of a happy family we still are.

That was the worst idea to do. I was eighteen when I was introduced to him.

Evan Porter.

When I first met him, I fell for him. His strong build, sharp edges of his cheekbones, tan complexion, and chocolate brown eyes drew me in like every woman in vicinity of his presence. He just oozed a powerful aura. How wrong could I be.

My parents were thrilled that I was dating him, but it soon became apparent that he was a big shot jerk. He was conceited, arrogant, and cocky. His status in life was related to his success with all the money in the world in his family's bank account. I didn't find out what an idiot I was dating until it was too late in our relationship.

I couldn't exactly break up with him. When I brought it to my parent's attention, they basically said I needed to stay with him for his family's business. With Porter Industries, they could expand their sales and branch out more. This was their way in. They wanted me to marry the jerk, and Evan was all for it. His father would disown him if he didn't settle down soon and stop partying. He was good at keeping that part out of our relationship. He always acted like a presentable person, so caring and he never once showed his true colors.

It was the last year of college when one of my friends Eleanora, Nora for short, showed me a magazine article that showed Evan with a model making out in front of The Algonquin hotel in New York. I was beyond divested. When this was taken, I had a big presentation that he said he couldn't make because he had a big promotional meeting with potential partners.

There was a partner alright, but not what I was expecting. This model was a leggy bleach blonde who was in high demand for photoshoots. Compared to me, slightly on the heavy side with curves and big breasts, she was the perfect women. Girls looked up to her, wanted to be her. She was the what society pictured women to be. With her stick figure and small breast, she was perfect.

It truly hit home that I was being played.  He never loved me, the past three years were all false. It didn't mean anything. Eleanora helped me to forget about Evan, which was easier said than done. Eleanora was like me. Not the picture perfect female body that society expects. She was also attending The Ohio State University Medical Center when we met. She is studying to become a cardiologist. We met in the library one late night studying for finals.

Lately she has become the one person that I can to turn too when things are complicated. And she has been there when wonderful things have happened. When I got the job at the British Museum, the place that started me on my journey, I was beyond thrilled. Everything was finally looking up for me. I felt like everything would work out the way it was supposed to. No more wronged parents, deceitful men, or trying to impress anyone. I was my own person. And I was finally going to live my life the way fate designed it.

Careful what you wish for.
