"The lines and lines of code we put, to create a robot in the image of mankind, thinking of ourselves as pseudo gods. Atheism is the reason, one could say, and science is the new religion. Everyone wants to be more powerful than the rest, god resides in all of us, giving us a sense of what is right and what is wrong.
But transferring that sense in the form of laws? The humanity of humans is intangible. We do not understand it perfectly ourselves, look at all our romances, look at all our contradictions.
There needs to be a way to stop wars." muttered June to herself as she was sitting there restlessly in her bed going through articles , papers and projects and switching between them meticulously. The more you read and the more you find out, the more questions you have. It is rightly said ignorance is bliss, because the other end of the spectrum is sleepless nights because you are holding on to a thought that does not even directly affect you.
"Not me perhaps, but I am part of something greater than myself, something beyond myself. I cannot be another cog in the wheel. This is not something that does not directly affect me " she thought brushing the thought off later as morning set in.
She woke up to the frame hung above her bed - It was a high definition print of "Men shall know Nothing of This - Max Ernst" framed carefully in wood painted black and grey. The spheres that make up the majority of the painting link it to Cabbalistic mysticism, which is a unifying occult form. In Cabbalistic mysticism, existence is built around the idea of the Tree of Life which - a simple map which illustrates the most fundamental structure of existence. The Tree of Life consists of ten significant sephiroth (spheres) which are "cosmic principles, divine emanations, worlds and attributes of god" defining the phenomenal world, the real.
In this painting, we have at the top a sun halfway through its eclipse phase. The eclipse of the sun is representative of the struggle between the two side of the self; the eclipsing unconscious, Dionysian aspect of the self and the real, conscious, Apollonian self. The sun surmounts an inverted crescent moon which hides two copulating figures from its sight, suggesting a connection between the lunar (female, unconscious) principle and hidden sexual knowledge that contributed to the fall of man from grace. The fall represents mankind and natures fall into matter...This fall shields man from the spiritual world [the marvellous], and an abyss opens between man and the divine.
The two principle demiurges (the sun and moon) are divine architects with their lines of creation darting down from their celestial abode to manifest on the plain of reality. The lines of manifestation from the sun form the robed figures whose naked bodies are hidden from sight, while the lines from the moon lead to the phallic whistle, connecting it to sexual principles represented by the copulating figures that the moon hides.
Lending itself to the idea that the piece is a type of primordial creation myth are the shapes forming the lower section of the artwork. At the bottom of the piece are beakers, tubes and measuring cylinders covered in mud, dirt and clay, representational of alchemy and the occult mysteries entwined with it .
It had intensity, consistency, inventiveness , elegance and everything urging one to explore the unconscious and the conscious within. June was no exception. She stared into the frame , absorbed essence for the day from it and set out for the day.
"The marvellous is always beautiful, anything that is marvellous is beautiful; indeed, nothing but the marvellous is beautiful." ~ Bréton, Manifesto of Surrealism
