The day drifts slowly. I woke up at quarter before noon, and I think it was an "ok" start. I just ate a sandwich for breakfast and played with Mittens outside. That seems to be productive, but the laziness hits me in the head. I decided to get my gameboy and sit in the front steps.
"Gosh this game is hard!" I exclaimed, still trying to beat the first boss. I continued raging on the game. "Almost there..." I said, never much focused than ever.
A few minutes-- or I guess more than an hour later, I finally reached the last boss battle. A minute of concentration was very effective.
Okay, Monica. Just do the 8-12 combo and you'll be the master for sure...
All of a sudden, a voice distracted me. "Hi, Monica!". I shrieked with all my energy, surprisingly throwing my newly bought gameboy. "No!!" I shouted, trying to catch it even if it's for sure that I wouldn't. Unfortunately, it landed in the old and dirty bird bath. I paused for a moment, staring at my soaking wet gadget. I clenched my fists and looked for the person who disturbed me, and ruined my last battle, AND made my gameboy slip away from my hands. "Oh, it's you, Claire." I said, putting a hand on my hip, trying not to release all my anger out. I gasped when I saw a handsome looking guy with her. "Omg! Are you here to introduce your new boyfriend?" I asked with a cheeky grin. "What?!" both of them said in unison. "No we're just friends." Claire added, hiding the rosy red blush in her face. They walked towards me stiffly. Claire introduced the unfamiliar boy.
"Umm, Monica, I would like you to meet my friend, Mathew. But you can just call him Mat."
"Hey. Sup?"
He waved his hand and smirked. I think he just doesn't have interest on me, or maybe he doesn't have interest on anything. I waved back and looked away.
"So," Mat said "What do you wanna talk about?". Claire elbowed Mat's arm and they both met their eyes. "You start talkin' or I will choke you intensely." she whispered, making a fist. I chuckled lightly, and teased "You really do make a great couple!" They both dropped their jaws and twitched their eyes. This time, I laughed hardly, and almost sarcastically, which made them annoyed.
"You know what? Let's just change the dang subject, ok?" Claire said, irritated at me, and my fake sarcasm.
"Eh, sure whatever." I replied, still resisting not to laugh or grin.
"Well, since Claire told me to speak up, I think I'm gonna ask you what interests you."
"Sure! Bring it on!"
Time flies by, and we talked about many things that caught our interest. We didn't noticed that the sky was getting dark.
"Hey, I think it's time for us to stop now. Don't you have something to do tomorrow? Or maybe an appointment or some stuff?"
"Nah, I don't have any plans for tomorrow." Mat said "Uh... Wanna hang out tomorrow? It's fine if you don't want to anyways. I can just do some other things."
"Umm, I g-guess so." I shrugged "W-well, see ya tomorrow then."
"Yea..." we both looked away and then met our eyes. We stared for a long time but a voice interrupted "Uh, hello? I'm here! What are you guys doing?". It was Claire. I looked at her, analyzing her eyes.
They seem...different. The eyes of the girl that has sorrow, hatred, and...jealousy?
"Oh, uh, I just remembered something." I lied. "Well then, if that's how it is, we're going home. It's late anyways. Bye!" she said. Before she turned her back, I tugged her arm and whispered "You know you have to replace my..." I glanced at it and continued "...gameboy. I saved lots of money for this, plus it's newly bought, so it's a big deal to me." I sighed. She just nodded and replied "Sure thing! After all, you won the bet last week. A bet is a bet." Mat overheard us. I shook my head and said "Well, goodbye!". They both waved and walked away. Before they were out of sight, Mat looked at me for the last time. He smiled then catches up with my friend. I turned around, and walked all the way to my home.
I was staring at the ceiling, lying down on my bed with clutter all over the floor. My mind can't stop thinking about that new guy. I thought about the first time we saw each other, first time we've built a conversation, first time we met our eyes, and the first time he smiled at me. All those memories makes my heart feel alive. I then shook my head and brought myself back to the real world.
"Woah, keep it together, Monica. You cannot love him, nor like him. He's just your friend. Besides, he might have someone else or maybe he has this huge crush on another girl I don't know. Or maybe--snap out of it! No, Monica, no." I said, talking to nobody but me. All of these thoughts make me tense. My brain won't think about something else, which makes me frightened, and worried.
