I screamed. And paused, ready to accept the outcome. But someone forcefully grabs me, wrapping his arms around my waist and pushes us aside.

Someone just saved me, but I don't know who.

The smoke blinds my eyes, making me unable to see the person. I waved my hands in a repetitive motion, trying to clear the fog. My eyes widened in shock to stare at the man who brought up the courage to rescue a clumsy girl like me.

"A-Avan?!" I exclaimed. He carefully stood up and dusted his pants. "Hey, Monica." he replied slyly. Unknowingly, he scooped me off the ground and brought me to a somewhat dark alley. There was only one source of light, but it was worth it. He dropped me slowly, ignoring my intense nagging (well, kind of).

I hesitate to look at him in the eyes. He just stares at me. "Monica?" I stayed silent. "Monica??" he repeated. Avan inched his face forward to mine. He simply puts his two fingers on my chin and pulls it to face him. We gazed at each other closely, analyzing both our eyes. Mine's became weary and misty. I tried to fight back tears, but I failed to do it. I couldn't think of a way to hide my face but to hug him. "M-Monica?" he stammered. More tears flushed down. "Sorry..." I sniffed and hugged him tighter. Avan dared to stroke my head.

"I don't get it," I said, swallowing the lump at my throat, tightening my grip at his shirt "Why does he have to be with her?" Avan pushes me away. "Wh-wha-?"

"Do you have to think about Mat every second of your life?! he shouted, clenching his fists. "I've done everything for you, but yet it isn't enough." He took a step forward and grasped my shoulders. We meet each other's eyes again. "Monica..." he looked down, hair covering his eyes. I saw his tears running down his cheeks. I can feel his grip tightening on my shoulders.

Just then, Mat appeared from the shadows. He felt insecure not telling you about his relationship with my best friend.

As Mat stepped forward into the light, Avan brought his face closer to mine. His hot breath brushed my lips. And the moment our lips met, everything will turn out to one big misunderstanding. Yet the kiss was electrifying, my heart shattered to pieces. I forcefully pulled him back.

I saw Mat with a disappointed look. He dropped his stuff on the ground and walked away.

"Mat!"
