"You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes." ~A.A. Milne
I have this Friday off. Not because it is my scheduled day off but because since I get two weeks paid vacation time and I have nowhere to go, I take random days off throughout the year but I still get paid which is fantastic. Tatiana took today off too because her daughter has a fever.
I curl up on my couch with a book in hand. My eyes follow the sentences for at least an hour. I completely forget about everything else and I am snapped out of my book when my phone starts ringing.
"Hello?" I say when I answer the phone.
"Hey, Ellie!" Tatiana chirps from the other end of the line. "How are you?" She asks.
"I'm good. You?" I ask.
"I'm good too," she replies. "I was wondering if you wanted to have a girls day this afternoon. Trevor took the afternoon off and said he could watch Ashton," she offers.
"I would love to," I reply.
"Great!" She says enthusiastically. "I can pick you up at noon?"
"That's fine with me," I say.
"Okay, great. I was thinking that we could go get manis/pedis and then maybe catch an early dinner if that is okay with you?"
"That honestly sounds wonderful."
"Yay! I can't wait."
We talk for a few more minutes before we say our goodbyes.
I look at my crappy pajamas I am wearing that I have had for five years. My hair is in a messy bun and I am wearing my glasses instead of my contact lenses like usual. I have about two hours before Tatiana picks up so I decide to take a shower and actually put on makeup and dress nicely because I have plenty of time.
I turn on my shower and let it warm up while I attempt to brush out my crazy long hair. My hair gets knots so quickly, it almost seems pointless to brush it out.
I let the water cascade down my face and onto my shoulders. Showers are relaxing. The water runs through my hair as I wash out the shampoo. I grab the bottle of conditioner and measure out the right amount before massaging that into my chocolate brown hair.
I hear my phone vibrate on the bathroom counter. Whoever it is, can wait. It stops vibrating seconds later but then it starts vibrating again. And again, I let it go.
I begin to rinse out my hair when it goes off again. I let out a sigh. "Hasn't this person heard of voicemail?" I ask myself aloud.
I wipe my hands dry with the towel beside the shower before grabbing my phone from the counter.
"Hello?" I say when I answer.
"Ellie," I hear Logan say from the other end. "I know you are not working today and I really didn't want to call you."
"You called me three times, Logan," I remark. "Who died?" I ask with a hint of sarcasm.
"Well actually Ed Lauter just last week," he replies to my mildly sarcastic question.
"Who is Ed Lauter?" I ask.
"He was in the movie King Kong in the mid-70s," he explains.
"Never even heard of it," I say with honesty.
"What? How?! Why?"
"It's just a movie," I retort.
"You need to watch it," he says.
