Its been a full week since I was released from the hospital, a full week since I last saw Yami.
I sit at my desk, starring at my duel monster cards silently. Joey sits on the bed Yami used to sleep on before the incident, watching me with a sadness that he seems to be trying to conceal.
"Yug," he starts in a tentative voice, like one would use approaching a touchy subject, "its been a full week, cant ya forgive Yami yet?"
I feel my head snap up at the mention of his name and the fear I know is pointless seizes me. Calm down Yugi, he isn't here.
"I don't think I can," I half mumble and look back down at my hands.
"Yug, ya have ta forgive him sooner or later! Why are ya afraid of him? It wasnt his fault ya know!" Joey yells suddenly, standing up and crossing his arms.
Why am I still afraid? I do know it wasn't really his fault...but what if he forgets again? I don't think I could handle it if he forgot that we were together, again. He might hurt me, its best to not give him the chance to...
"Common, he is fallin' apart without ya! He won't eat anything, ya know how he got that fancy new apartment? Well Tristan went ta check on him and he caught him tryin' to kill himself!" Joey persists, walking up to me.
"He did what?!" I yell, standing up quickly. I know Yami hurt me and all but there is no way I want him to die.
"Yeah, ya heard me. I'm not sayin' ya have to do anything but I think ya should at least visit him," he says looking out my window towards Domino city.
"I-I can't do it alone..." I say following his gaze but taking a step back from the window.
"Ya don't have ta, I'll go with ya!" Joey says, a grin playing across his lips.
"You will? Thanks Jou, your the best!" I reply, managing to pull a small smile even though I don't really feel like I can anymore.
"Let me call Kaiba ta send us a driver," he says pulling a sleek, new phone from his back pocket. I guess their relationship was going well, Joey had looked a lot happier these last few days.
In minutes Joey and I were speeding down the streets of Domino in a black limousine. The inside was really nice, black leather seats, black carpeting, a flatscreen television, a mini fridge, the works. Joey had yet to stop texting Kaiba, leading me to believe Seto was on a break.
The limo pulls to a stop in front of a really nice apartment complex, "Yug, ya ready ta go?"
I take a deep breath and nod, in truth Im not sure if I am but I can't let Yami hurt himself.
Walking up to his door took less time than I thought it would, in fact I was so preoccupied with worry I don't even remember how exactly I got to be standing in front of his white, wooden door. I stand behind Joey, mostly because it makes me feel safer, as he softly knocks on the door.
The brass doorknob turns revealing Tristan, who looks slightly surprised to see Joey but shocked to see me.
"Wow, you got him out of his house, Im impressed!," Tristan says to Joey before turning to me,"How are you holding up?"
I take a second to think about it before answering in a soft voice, "I think Im doing a little bit better."
"Good! Well I guess you came to see Yami, right? He is all the way in the back, Joey you know where right?" Tristan says smiling.
"Yeah, he's in his room, common Yug."
I nod appreciatively to Tristan before following Joey inside. The whole place is completely clean, from the white carpets to the polished black leather chairs and couches. There is no sound besides the sound of our feet sinking into the plush carpet. Tristan heads for a door on the left that holds what I presume to be a kitchen behind it.
Joey boldly opens the door at the back of the apartment. Inside is surprisingly dark in contrast to the living room. He flips on a light switch letting a feeble amount of light invade the shadows from the ceiling. Clothes lay on the black carpeted floor cluttering the space around a circular shaped bed with a black comforter. Black dressers sit with their drawers hanging out, completely empty. My breath catches in my throat as the irrational fear threatens to take over.
"Tristan turn it off," I hear Yami's unmistakable baritone voice mumble miserably from beneath the comforters, "I told you I just want to be alone."
"Get up Yami! Ya have a visitor!" Joey calls out cheerfully as I peek out from behind him, watching for Yami to appear.
"Just go away, I don't want to see anyone," he replies, obviously depressed.
"I guess he wants us ta go Yug," Joey says with a shrug but smiles knowing as well as I that my name will perk Yami up.
"Yugi? Wait, Yugi your here?" Yami asks, still under his comforter but now hopefulness has replaced the depressed tone.
"....Yeah, Im here."
He shoots up, throwing the comforters off. His eyes are wide as he stares at me taking in every detail. Knowing that Im just wearing my old blue denim jacket over an old black T-shirt with black leather pants makes me feel a bit self-conscious.
I realize Im looking him over, watching his worn out eyes look over me, noticing that the pale skin of his chest and abs are showing because he isn't wearing a shirt. His black silk pants look wrinkled like he had been curled up in them for days.
His eyes have bags under them from sleepless nights, I guess I did a number on him.
"Yugi...." he whispers sliding off his bed and taking a few steps toward me with his hand reaching out to me. I take a quick step back and watch as the single step seems to hurt him.
"Yami, I heard you tried to harm yourself," I say in a shaky voice and watch as he looks down in shame, "D-don't do that again, ok? Killing yourself won't do anything but hurt everyone around you!"
"I know," he whispers in a broken voice.
"Yami," Joey says trying to lighten the mood by changing the topic, "how about we go sit in your living room to talk, its much brighter in there."
"In a second Joey, first, may I talk to Yugi alone?" Yami asks looking at me with pleading eyes.
"I don't think-" Joey says before I lay a hand on his arm to stop him.
"Its alright Joey," I say firmly.
"Are you sure?" he asks looking at me worriedly.
"Im sure, besides you will be right in the next room," I say then drop my voice to whisper to myself,"There is nothing to be afraid of, nothing."
"Alright," he says letting me pass into Yami's room, and heading into the kitchen.
As soon as Yami sees that Joey entered the kitchen he starts speaking quickly in a shaky voice,"Yugi, Im so sorry for hurting you, I never meant to cause you harm but Tea tricked me into believing you were evil! I would never hurt you on purpose, please believe me!"
"Yami-" I whisper before he cuts me off.
"Yugi I will do anything for you, just give me a chance to make it right, please. Tell me what you want me to do to make it up to you!" he pleads, walking up to me quickly and hugging me. I stand in shock for a few seconds before hugging him back. His skin feels warm and his touch familiar and safe. I take a deep breath, he smells like cinnamon.
As I stand here in his arms I realize two things. One, I shouldn't fear him, none of it was his fault, and two, when I'm with him Im home.
