It's been a week since the new girl first appeared in my class. The whole 'new girl excitement' died down around her third day. I still didn't know why she seemed so familiar but since we never had any classes together, it didn't bug me as much as it had that first day. Me, Des, and Monty were watching TV together on the couch when Boyd walked in from the kitchen and threw a piece of paper at me. I swatted it away and ignored it when it landed on the floor.

"You guys are going shopping,"Boyd demanded.

"Who says?"challenged Des.

"Me, dumbass now get up and get moving,"he commanded.

"You heard him,"Monty said as me and Des stood up from the couch.

Des kicked Monty's legs out of the way muttering something that rhymed with "mazy grass brother trucker". I grabbed the list and we headed out for the grocery store. Boyd had handed us money as we made our way out the door. Enough to get what was on the list and enough to "Treat yourselves," as Boyd has so cockily put it. After a solid five minutes of arguing, I gave up and let Des drive. Des drove us to the grocery store which was only a couple minutes away. We got out of the car and made our way inside. Des grabbed a grocery cart and pushed it down the aisles riding it like a skateboard. Me and Des wandered around the store grabbing all the stuff that was on the list Boyd had given us.

"Hey, Tex, go get the cereal,"Des said as he headed off to get more peanut butter.

I walked down the aisles and around the store in search of the cereal. I turned a corner abruptly and felt something bounce off my chest, I looked down. It was a girl. She stumbled back a couple of steps and I almost laughed because I barely felt it at all. She looked up at me and I realized it was the new girl. She looked up at me with brown eyes, "Sorry," she mumbled before picking up the box of cereal she dropped before.

"Jadyn, Jadyn, where are you-"said a woman coming around the corner pushing a grocery cart.

"Oh, Jadyn, there you are,"the woman said addressing the girl.

"Yeah, Mom, I got the cereal,"said the girl holding up the box.

The girl was pretty short, the top of her head barely reached the height of my shoulders. She was pretty tiny also, very thin and almost fragile looking. It was probably because she was so tiny. Her hair golden brown hair was down and it reached past her shoulders. Now that I got a closer look it was like caramel with a rusty tint to it. Her tan skin and brown eyes were perfect. It was making me sweat a little just being around her, girls kinda make me nervous. I've just never really had any experience with girls, whatsoever. She was just so pretty looking.

"Are you one of Jadyn's friends?"the woman asked who I assumed was the girl's mother.

I should probably start thinking about her with her name. Jadyn. Pretty name.

"Not really, I'm Tex,"I said shoving my hands in my pockets and feeling the wad of cash Boyd gave me.

"You go to the same school though, right?"Jadyn's mother said like she already knew the answer and she just wanted to see if I would lie or not.

"Yeah,"I nodded.

"Why aren't you friends?"asked Jadyn's mom cluelessly.

"Mom! Let's go check out, Dad's waiting for us,"Jadyn said desperate to get out of there.

"Alright, sweetie. Whatever you say,"her mom said smiling slyly and her daughter making Jadyn blush.

She was cute when she blushed. I watched Jadyn push her mother down the aisle and around the corner until they were out of sight and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. I grabbed a random box of cereal and headed back to meet Des, putting the box absentmindedly into the cart.

"What's wrong?"Des asked while tossing a tub of ice cream into the cart.

"Nothing,"I said looking in the direction of the checkout lines seeing if I could spot Jadyn.

"Are you sure?"he asked.

I shrugged, "I just ran into the new girl."

"She's hot,"Des said tossing a second tub of ice cream into the cart.

I nodded, "Yeah, she kinda is."

Des froze and spun on his heel to face me, "God, you like her don't you,"he said punching me in the arm.

"What, now!"I cried taking a step back.

"You totally do!"he shouted earning us a few weird glances.

"Why would I like her? I just met her like five minutes ago,"I said holding my hands up in surrender.

"She's also pretty hot,"Des said crossing his arms after tossing a third tub of ice cream into the cart.

"That's like the only thing I know about her though. Listen, can we just go, please?"I said not wanting to talk about it anymore.

"Alright, fine,"said Des although I knew he wasn't going to leave this alone for long.

We rolled the car to the checkout lines and picked the shortest one. When I looked down I saw Jadyn. She hadn't noticed us but Des and I had noticed her.

"Hey!"Des said stretching out the "Hey!"

Jadyn turned around and looked like she was about to get run over by a car. Des was almost a foot taller and wider than her. She was so small, I just wanted to wrap her up in a hundred layers of bubble wrap and throw her in a safe where she wouldn't get hurt. It was weird feeling like that, maybe that's what Jeb feels like all the time.

"Hi,"Jadyn said shyly.

"Jadyn, right?"Des asked leaning forward on the cart.

Jadyn nodded. It bugged me that Des knew her name and I hadn't.

"Des, right?"she asked bravely.

Des nodded, "Yeah, so you're a sophomore like my brother, Tex, right?"

"Yeah, I guess."

"Des, what are you doing?"I whispered in Des's ear.

He shrugged me off, "Why don't you hang out with us sometime?"

Now me and Jadyn both looked like we were going to get run over by a truck. Hang out sometime?!? The second she stepped foot into our house with three other guys hanging around twice her size and years older than her, she'll run for her life if she knows what's good for her and that tiny little body of hers.

"Sure,"

I stared at Jadyn for a second before she turned around and continued talking with her mother. Great, now she thinks I'm a freak. Jadyn didn't talk to us anymore. She left before Des could catch up and get her number. I waited until we were outside in the parking lot until I let Des have it.

"Hang out?!? What the hell was that!"I yelled at Des kicking him in the leg because my hands were full of groceries.

Des laughed avoiding my kick, "Your welcome for asking her out for you,"he said as if I'd just thanked him.

Sometimes Des just hears what he wants to hear. It's like his brain carefully looks at every word that comes through his ear and changes them up if it doesn't like whatever came in.

"Asshole,"I muttered stalking off to the car.

A car started in the corner of the parking lot. It pulled out of the spot it was in and started to drive away. Just before it could, I saw Jadyn. Suddenly, it hit me. The reason she seemed so familiar. The girl from Prince Slade's kingdom. She was there. In a fairytale. Now she was here. In the real world. She was there.
