The Collapse of Mankind

Chapter Six

Ellie and Cisco both fell asleep together next to the burned out fire. Memories of glory during the horrific outbreak swirled their mind. All until a sound disturbed their sleep. Their eyes flickered open simultaneously due to the crash. It sounded like a heavy baseball bat smashing against the metal gates. Ellie quickly sat up and looked towards the noise source expecting to see a hoard of infected. What she saw was much worse. She saw a man. He had a scar across his face. Once she has acknowledged the fact he had a scar, she immediately recognized him as the man who shot her only remaining family member that wasn't Leo. He still had that nasty and dark smirk stained to his face. Ellie's teeth clashed and gritted together, her face turned bright red and her fists clenched at the man who had ruined a large part of her life. The man looked Ellie and expanded his smirk even bigger. "I'm back" he mouthed. Ellie looked down at her best friend.

Ellie: Cisco. Get up. NOW!

Ellie grabbed Cisco's hand and dragged him up. She began running towards the building they were staying in. Cisco took a quick look back and saw the man. He rolled his eyes as he kept running. As soon as they got to the building, they yelled for the others.

Ellie: GET UP!
Cisco: GUYS!

Nick, who was sleeping on the floor, wrapped up in blankets, woke up and rubbed his eyes.

Nick: What?
Ellie: Danger outside.
Jess: Woah woah woah slow down. What danger?
Ellie: The guy who killed my grandma. He's here.
Nick: Shit.

Nick yelled for everybody to get up, he made as much noise as he possibly could to get everybody awake. Yelling, clapping.... everything. Once the whole group had gotten up, Cisco spoke up.

Cisco: Guys we're in danger.
Lilly: Why? What's happening?
Ellie: The guy that killed my grandma is here. Nova, Lilly... you don't know him. You've never seen him. But he's... a bad bad person.
Cisco: Seriously though, get your weapons. This means war.

The group all head to their weapons. Once they had collected their lifesavers, they met in the kitchen. Leo was shaking whilst tightly holding his pistol.

Ellie: It's okay Leo. Don't worry. Nothing will happen to you. I have your back.

Leo nodded his head whilst looking down nervously.

Cisco: You all ready?
Nova: Yeah. I guess so.
Lilly: I have to be.
Nick: Sure.
Jess: Yes.
Leo: Yeah.
Ellie: Hell yeah.
Cisco: Well then... Lets go.

They all spilled out of the room, following each other one by one in a line. Their weapons were at the ready. The man was pacing a short length of the gate, waiting for the group to see him. They confidently walked towards the man. Nova's mouth dropped open at the sight of him. Her hand gripped Lilly's wrist tightly.

Lilly: Shit.
Cisco: What?
Nova: That's Carter.
Ellie: No fucking way.
Lilly: How'd he find us?

The group all walked up to the gate, eyeing the man.

Nova: What the hell do you want?
Carter: Revenge.

His voice was as deeper than any voice they'd ever heard before. It was smooth but mysterious. Some would say rather relaxing.

Cisco: On what? We didn't do anything!
Carter: You didn't. But they did.

Carter pointed towards Nova and Lilly.
