The Collapse of Mankind

Chapter Five

The group stood there, being threatened by a random girl. They didn't know what to do.

Cisco: We can just go! Make this easier for everyone!
Ellie: We got no problem with leaving!
Unknown: No! We can't let you go.

It stayed silent.

Unknown: Drop your weapons!

The group looked at Ellie. She nodded to her friends, causing her friends to place their weapons on the floor.

Unknown: Now come forward!
Nick: What if someone takes our weapons?
Unknown: Nobody will. No one comes near here.

The group began walking forwards. A different girl opened the large gate door. The five of them walked through, cautiously. The girl holding up the rifle came down to meet the group. She still held the rifle up, pointing it at the group. Ellie stood at the front, so the others felt safer. She surrendered.

Ellie: I would appreciate it if you didn't have that gun in front of my face.
Unknown: What do you want?
Cisco: We were going to see if this place was taken.
Unknown: Well, it is.
Ellie: Then we'll just be going.

The girl lowered the rifle.

Unknown: You really don't want any trouble?
Ellie: No.
Unknown: Okay.

The girl handed the rifle to the other girl.

Unknown: I'm Nova. And this is Lilly.

Ellie: Hello. I'm Ellie. And this is Cisco, Nick, Jess and my brother Leo.

The two groups greeted one another. Luckily, the tension had died down.

Cisco: Can we go and get our weapons?
Nova: Sure. Lilly go with them to make sure they don't run.

The group followed Lilly out of the grounds. Ellie walked beside her.

Ellie: So... why is she so stuck up?
Lilly: She's not. She just needs time to get used to you.
Ellie: Get used?

Lilly sighed.

Lilly: We can't let you leave.
Ellie: What? Why?
Lilly: Nova wants more people.
Ellie: You don't have more people? It's just you guys?
Lilly: It is.
Ellie: You have such a big camp.
Lilly: I know. Nova just... feels isolated. I promise she's a good person. You just have to get used to it.

Ellie sighed. Maybe this was a good thing. The more people, the better. As long as nobody is dangerous. The group picked up their weapons and headed back into the camp. Ellie, Cisco, Nova and Lilly all sat around a table in the kitchen.

Cisco: You know how dangerous it is for you guys to travel in a two?
Nova: I don't care.
Lilly: It doesn't matter anymore. We've got a group now. If... you guys wanna stay here with us. We could do with some extra help.
Cisco: I think Ellie and I will have to discuss this before just joining two strangers.

Ellie nodded in agreement.

Lilly: Fair enough. That's fine. We'd appreciate the help.

Cisco and Ellie smiled to one another only to be disturbed by Nick storming into the kitchen and aggressively opening all the cupboards. He searched through them, grunting at the lack of food they had.
