Life couldn't have been better for any 16 year old teenager, me to be precise.
Football practices have been going okay, grades have increased significantly from an E to a B thanks to Nate. Speaking of Nate, we were still as close as bread and jam. The bullies troubling him have kinda stopped because he's 'a friend of Zach'. Just thinking about it made me feel fuzzy inside.
Graduations were just 2 months away and preparations were being made. Since Julian the soccer captain was graduating, we needed a new captain. It was either Flynn (Flynn was what you'd call a fuckboy) or myself. Elections were a month away and Sasha declared herself the campaign manager.
Did I ever tell you about Waldron? The old folks in Sallyville call it the town's twin. Legends say that both lands once belonged to a man who shared it among his twin sons just before he died. This man was buried right in the middle of the both towns, so basically a grave marker demarcates Sallyville from Waldron. All this information is from Nate of course, the human history book of the world.
Anyways, when we have matches, Waldron's team is the team we play against. The old folks said that winning or losing didn't matter, having fun was what did. Yeah, right, try telling that to testosterone pumped teenage boys.
Every match ended up in a brawl. Not in front of the old folks of course, we wouldn't want to look irresponsible, they brawled on the beach which eventually always turned into a sand fight (parody version of a pillow fight: courtesy of the girls) and then to half drunken asses crashing on the beach. I get chills just thinking about how cold it always was. I hated the cold.
Parties were becoming more consistent, I never hard to sneak out though, Leanne always gave permission but without mom's consent, mom was under the impression that I was doing homework with Nate. Nate was only going for the gossip and I was going because Nate was going, we wouldn't want anyone bullying him now would we?
The parties were always beach parties, no one had a house big enough to throw a house party. If it was your party, you brought the drinks and music.
It was a Friday night and Sheryl the head cheerleader just found her cat which was lost for approximately 30 minutes and boom bada boom its a party!. The football teams were automatically invited, the Waldron's and the Sallyville's because that's were Sheryl's boyfriend goes.
I went to pick Nate from his house and we headed to the beach. He was wearing a blue round neck T-shirt with dark coloured jeans. He was holding glow in the dark sticks and he wouldn't tell me what it was for.
Nate and I arrived pretty late, empty kegs were already being rolled away and solo cups littered the sands.
"Hey! You guys came!" Sasha screamed/yelled as she approached us. She was draped over Wyatt and could barely stand.
"Hey, Julian is looking for you Nate" Wyatt said. I was lost for a moment. I was thinking of chocolates that happened to be the same shade as Wyatt's eyes.
"Huh?"
"Julian is by the bathhouses, he's looking for you" he repeated.
"Oh, okay" I pulled Nate along to the bathhouse. I heard Sasha say something along the lines of "-friends nothing more". I was bad at this eavesdropping stuff, nothing ever made sense.
"So, Wyatt huh?" Nate started
"What about him?" Nate didn't seem to like him at all
"It's obvious you kinda like him" Nate answered
"That's ridiculous, he's Sasha boyfriend" I retorted
"I'm your best friend Zee, you can tell me anything"
