"lizzy! lizzy! wake up!"
"uh?" i answered, half asleep.
"baby. I need a ride, please. i had to drop Jason's sister to playschool. they have a picnic today. I forgot & now.." laura babbled.
"last time i checked you knew how to drive." i said, trying to grab the situation.
"yes but he's picking me one street down the playschool and then i'd need someone who get's our car back home." she explained.
I scrunched my nose up which she obviously didn't notice, knowing these tricks won't work on Laura, I sighed and told her i'd be down in five. she made that two, gave me a peck and fled away.
~The Playschool~
Anna, Jason's sister, five years old with a sharp mouth, cute looks, brown hair which were pigtailed and the backpack that she held so close, we assumed there were jewels inside. she looked so adorable, the first thought upon seeing her is to crush her into a hug. but now as i stood alone with her at the entrance because Laura was busy talking with Jason while a huge crowd outside wondered why the playschool ain't opening. the lady-probably the one who owned it- apologized thrice and also said it'll be opening in a minute. a minute..
"why is it closed?" Anna questioned.
"I don't know." i sighed.
"Why don't you know?"
"how am I supposed to Sweetie?" i smiled.
"find out." she ordered with a straight face.
"Honey I-"
"Anna." she corrected.
"Anna. I'm sorry I can't help it."
"you're useless."
"excuse me?"
crush her into a hug, crush her into a squeeze, crush her with a handshake.. anything would do, I just wanted to crush her now.
"you heard me. why don't you go back?" she spoke.
"one. you need me here, because you're a toddler and can't stay here alone. two. why don't you just learn a little politeness baby?" I kept my face straight ahead.
"you don't tell me what to do." she said. what was with her? i was trying to be friendly here.
I remained silent.
"so what's your age?" she asked.
"why do you care?"
"i don't. it's a conversation starter." she iced.
"why do you wanna converse at all when all you do is insult?" i questioned.
"cool. you can shut up." I could shut up? damn girl what's with you?!
"hey." I turned around to the feeling of fingers on my shoulder.
"Justin? what're you doing here?" I questioned his smiley face with one of my own smiles.
"what're you doing here? I thought it was just you and Laura." he spoke.
"It is." I giggled.
"laura needed me to drop Anna." I looked at Anna. her face was.. marble. cold and smooth.
"hey there Ann. how you doin'?" Justin kneeled down to Anna's level.
"hey Justin. you don't come home anymore?" she said and I saw her smile, for the first time.
"yeah Honey, i've just been busy with college."
"alright." with another smile. ALRIGHT? he just called you 'honey' and there wasn't an objection! unfair.
I just looked at them, wide-eyed.
"you guys know each other?" I asked.
"yes. i've been to Jason's a lotta times right?" Justin said.
"of course." i realized.
"I was here to drop Jazzy." he said, as i followed where his finger showed. Another sweet toddler in a floral dress, dirty blonde hair and exactly the smile that Justin had.
"I thought it was just you." i said.
"no, jazzy and jaxon. a part of me." he smiled. I smiled too.
"where's ..jaxon?" I questioned.
"oh, he's at my aunt's." he said. I nodded.
"let's go check whether it's open yet?" Justin asked.
"sure"
As we entered inside, the kiddies all assembled where assigned, all excited for the picnic. their faces bubbling with happiness, giggling while they discussed among themselves what their mama had packed for them.
"everything alright?" i heard Justin ask one of the older parent, their expressions worried and frustrated.
"the teachers are saying the volunteers backed out end moment, they need volunteers or they cancel. look at the kids, they all seem so excited for it." the parent said, shaking her head.
"they can't do that" i made a face.
"they're cancelling probably." he said, looking over to where Jazzy was.
those sweet faces. Anna and Jazzy. they'd be frowning in a while.
"Justin." I said, after a while of brainstorming.
"yeah?"
"you busy? like..did you have some work to do after dropping jazzy here?" i inquired.
"no. why?"
"because we're going for a picnic." I smiled.
"they're cancelling liz." he looked confused.
"yeah. they are. we aren't. let's take Jazz and Anna out. we'll inform Jason. i have the car." I smiled.
"well.."
"hush, let's go." I said, taking his hand and leading him to where Jazz and Anna were.
