Once inside, the aroma of coffee and baked goods envelop me, making my mouth water. I stand there foolishly, eyes adjusting to the lights (which are pretty bright in contrast to the twilight sky).
"Finn! Hey! Over here!"
I jump, not expecting the familiar British accent. I'm turning to join her when I freeze. The overhead lamp highlights her bob of hair and sets a twinkle in her delicate amber iris'. She's dressed in a simple black dress and light heather-grey cardigan. Casual, but beautiful. Exactly what I'd expect from her. I'm grinning ear-to-ear by the time I can manage to sit down.
"Y..you look...pretty..erm, pretty good!" She stifles a laugh.
"Thank you! Same to you Finn."
Did she just say I look good? Calm down, she was just being nice.
"S..so," I stutter, trying to think of a thorough sentence that won't make my sound dumb.
"How's your day going?"
A little grin forms on her face.
"Pretty great, as of now."
I feel heat rush to my cheeks and glance out the window. Geez, stop taking things out of context Finn!
"You like the 1975?"
I basically exhaled my question, so it came out as more of a wheeze than words.
"Yes! What were you doing outside my house again Finn?"
She tilts her head to the side, chin resting in the palm of her hand.
"I..I was walking home fr..from Noah’s. My friend, he lives a few houses down from yours."
