"Finn! Breakfast!" My moms shrill voice rings out.

I groan and roll over into my pillow. Sighing, I sluggishly sit up and look at my alarm clock. Dang, I slept in late. It's already 10:05. I lazily slide out of my bed and shuffle down the stairs. My eyes are tired from staying up late, and my chest aches from a broken heart.

"I made chocolate pancakes! Your fave-" she stops mid-sentence when she sees my face.

"Awe Finn, honey, are you ok? How did the date go?"

"I..it went great!" I choke out. "And yeah, I'm fine, just a bad dream."

Or maybe I live in a nightmare. Both are true, so I don't have to lie about that.  She nods but glances at me sideways. I can tell she knows something's up, but hopefully she won't talk about it.

"Here sweetie," she says while handing me a plate of warm flapjacks.

"Thanks mom."

I take two and transfer them to my plate while mussing up my hair. My mother frowns and walks over, giving me a tiny side hug.

"I love you Finn, whatever it is you're going through, you can talk to me about it."

I try to give her a reassuring smile, but I'm sure it looks more pitiful than convincing. "I'm..okay."

Who knew two words could be such a lie?
