Zayn Point of View

"Excuse me?" I walk up to the teenage girl stocking the shelves. She looks up. "Can you help me find something's? My cat just had kittens and I had no idea she was pregnant," I scratch the back of my neck.

She giggles, nodding quickly. "Are you going to keep them?" She asks as she starts leading me to a different aisle.

"I want to, I'm not sure my boyfriend will want to," I shrug.

She nods again. "I understand, my dog had puppies and my mom sold them all. Then my dog got depressed and she passed away," she frowns.

"Yeah, I don't want that to happen. Ginger is only five years old and she's like my child."

A grin suddenly spreads across the girl's face. "That's so sweet. Here is everything that you should need. You're gonna want to slowly introduce the kittens into food, I suggest soft food for now and hard food later. Make sure they have a separate place to sleep, they need to know what it's like to be away from their mother, but still be able to see her." I grab a couple cans of soft food off of the shelf and another cat bed. "You also want to keep them all together for the first few weeks. Maybe get some collars so you can tell them apart?"

I shake my head, "not yet. Ginger doesn't have a collar and I don't want them to have collars yet. They're all different colors so I'll know them apart." My phone cuts her off as she goes to speak. I pull it out of my pocket. "Yes, Jay?" I sigh heavily.

"I-I don't know what happened. They were all feeding and Ginger just pushed them off and one is... one is gone," he quickly mumbles.

"Dead?"

"Yeah."

"Is Ginger okay?"

"She's cuddling it and meowing really loud."

A tear slips from my eye. "Let me finish this and I'll be home soon. Get the other kittens away from her, set down a blanket or something for now," I clear my throat. "I'll be home in fifteen minutes."

"I'm sorry, baby," he whispers.

"It's not your fault," I hang up quickly. "Okay, I have to get back. Is there anything else I need right away?" The girl gave me a few more things before bringing me to the checkout line.

...

Ginger wails loudly when she sees me. "It's okay, baby," I kneel down in front of her. "Hi, pretty girl," I rub her head. She closes her eyes and nuzzles against my fingers. "Grab it," I say to Justin. He quickly grabs the deceased kitten out from under her and rushes out of the room. "Okay, come here," I lift her up. She purrs as I scratch her back.

Justin comes back into the room. "I put it in a bag. We'll bury it in the backyard," he informs me.

I just nod. "Can you get the other kittens back into her bed? She needs them right now," I whisper.

As soon as the other cats are in the bed, I set Ginger down. She lays down so they can snuggle into her. "Do you think she remembers one is gone?" Justin kneels down next to me.

"I hope not," I sigh heavily. "The girl at the store was telling me how she sold the puppies her dog had and the dog got so depressed, it died."

He wraps an arm around my waist. "So is that you telling me you want to keep them?"

I shrug, "if it'll keep her alive, yeah."

"Under one condition," he moves his face closer to mine. I turn to look at him and nod, whispering a small anything. "You officially move in here with me."
