It's been a year, daddy.

I really, really miss you.

Mommy says your safe now,

In a beautiful place called Elysium.

"Mommy, where's daddy? He has come home in like, a year! I've been waiting to show him my painting I made in art."

Mommy's lips formed in a straight line.

"He's in a safe place. A place called Elysium."

"Why is he there? Can we go too?!"

I bounced on my heels.

"Not right now though, it's time for bed. Come on, my little seashell."

"Okay, mommy."

She looked like she was gonna cry and I don't want her to cry.

"I'll go to bed."

We had your favorite dinner tonight.

And I ate it all up,

Even though I couldn't eat it all.

"Please mommy! One more slice of pizza!"

"No, sweetie. Eat one more and you will become super fat! Besides, this is your 5th piece!" Mommy scolded.

I pouted.

"But mommy, I'm hungry!"

"ZoZoBear, I haven't even eaten my 3rd slice yet. Wait til' I'm on my 4th."

I gave mommy a wide grinned.

"Okay, mommy."

I learned how to swim this summer,

And I can even open my eyes,

When I'm underwater.

"Sweetie! What did I tell you about going off into the sea again! You could have gotten hurt!" Mommy scowled.

I sniffled.

"I'm sowwy, mommy. I just want to talk to the fishies. There was one named Nemo. He was really, really nice." I felt a tear slide down my cheek.

Mommy sighed, pulling me into a hug.

"I'm sorry, ZoZoBear. I'm just scared you'll get hurt."

"I'm sowwy, mommy. I'll never do it again, I promise."

Mommy pulled away, and looked at me in the eye.

"You promise?"

"I promise."

Can you see me?

I miss you daddy.

"Is that..."

"Zoe! Put that down!"

"Mom, is that dad?"

Mom grabbed the picture from my hands, stormy grey eyes now glistening with tears.

"You never saw that."

"Mom, you ca-"

"You never saw that!"

I froze.

"Fine. Mother." I spat out.

It's been 5 years, daddy.

I'm in 5th grade now.

"Bye, Zoe! Good luck in 5th grade! Ugh, I'm so proud of you." Mom wiped away her tears.
