There she was, Kaya Masters. Charlie Lai crushed on her so bad that he blushed just by looking at her.
She didn't know him, obviously. Why would such an angel do as much as look at him? He wasn't worth her time. He made sure she didn't notice him. She'd be wasting time paying attention to him. Instead, he anonymously sent her gifts and cards. That's how he communicated to her when he did, anonymously.
He was Charlie Lai, son of Hermes, and she was Kaya Masters, daughter of Athena. He was known as a mischevious prankster and convincing thief, and she was known as a kind rule-follower and lovable older sibling. He pranked and stole, she gave and helped. They weren't meant for each other. She'd scowl upon people like him, and he'd be rejected painfully.
No, it'd be better if she never knew.
"Really, Hannah?" There Kaya was. She was laughing at her friend who was on the floor with a mess of paper around her. Apparently, Kaya's friend had tripped on air and knocked over Kaya and herself, and dropping the pile of paper she was holding.
"What can I say? I'm a clumzy one." Her friend rubbed her head, smiling at Kaya. Kaya looked at the mess and frowned. At first, Charlie didn't see what it was, but then he saw Kaya's book soaked with mud, laying on the floor. Kaya bent down slowly and picked her book up.
"Great, my book got dirty." Kaya sighed. "This was one of my favorites."
Her friend frowned. "I'm sorry, Kay. I'll buy you another one."
Kaya's eyes widened. "No! Don't! I-It's fine." Her eyes automatically scanned her surroundings, obviously looking for someone, and she started to blush faintly.
"You're wishing he heard..." Hannah smirked, putting a hand on her hip. "Lacy's gonna love this."
"Hannah! No! It's just, I mean, I just want to, urgh!" Kaya stumbles over her words, shaking her head furiously.
"Yeah, yeah. You just want to find out who he is, whatever you say. I know it's not true though. You'll never trick me!" Hannah strutted away from Kaya, leaving her grumbling and rushing to catch up.
Charlie blushed as he sighed dreamily, leaning against the tree he was hiding behind.
"You do realize everyone except Kaya knows you're the anonymous person sending Kaya gifts, right?" A dryad smirked at him, leaning against her tree, aka the tree he was hiding behind.
"Shut up, Lily. I'm in love." Charlie dramatically pressed the back of his hand to his forehead, sighing loudly and swooning.
"You moron. You lovesick moron." Lily shook her head at her best friend and partner in crime, smirking. She was usually the person who told him whatever she overheard Kaya say she want.
It's funny really, seeing Charlie squeal and dance like a kid on Christmas when Kaya saw her presents. He usually acted like a confident, arrogant bastard whenever he wasn't squealing over Kaya. Everyone knows it's an act, but no one ever has the honor of seeing Charlie as a blushing, stuttering, fanboying mess, nature spirits being the lucky exception because Charlie just likes them more than humans.
"Oh! By the way, the book was Divergent by Veronica Roth, since Lily was too busy laughing at you." Teased another dryad, Clover. This one was just one of the many that befriend the "oh so arrogant Charlie". Seriously, it's sad seeing him as a jerk, then suddenly turn to mush.
"Don't blame the poor dryad! It's not her fault Charlie is a mushy little love bug." Hopper, a satyr laughed. Charlie kept a straight face and raised a finger.
"One more word and I will wipe that sick smile off of your face with a knife covered in hand sanitizer and salt, then drop you in a pit of angry bees paralyzed." Charlie swore.
