I met you in the dark
You lit me up
"Hello! Why are you all alone under the tree? Come play with me and my friends!"
A scrawny little boy smiled at the girl in the under the giant tree.
"I don't wanna..."
The boy frowned, tilting his head at the girl, caring brown eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"Why not?"
The girl sniffed, eyes growing misty.
"No ones likes me..."
The boy's eyes widened with disbelief. He thought this girl probably had so many friends, she couldn't even name them all! Plus, she was really, really pretty.
Blushing at that thought, he replied with his thought, just in a shorter and less embarrassing way.
"What, no way!"
The girl's lips formed into a straight line.
"My dad barely stays home with me and my mom abandoned me at birth."
The boy huffed, not believing a word she said.
"What about your friends?"
The girl's bottom lip started to quiver. Suddenly, she started bawling, making the boy instantly feel guilty.
"I have no friends!"
The boy's eyes softened. Then he smiled again and wrapped his arms around the girl, sitting next to her.
"Well now you do!"
You made me feel as though
I was enough
"Louie, he's not worth your tears."
The boy hugged his 5 year old friend.
"But, I really liked him..."
The 10 year old girl looked at her best friend.
"Am I just not good enough for him? Am I-"
Her voice cracked as she said these words.
"Am I not good enough for anyone?"
The boy suddenly leaped up from his previous position.
"Don't ever say that."
The girl looked up.
"Wh-what?"
The boy swallowed.
"You are TOO good for Fischer, Louie. TOO good, TOO good for anyone! Louie, you are everything to me. You're the only family I have left, please, please, Louie."
The boy's eyes teared up as he sat down next to the girl again.
"Please don't ever think that again. What if, what if-"
Silent tears streamed down his face as he talked, oblivious to the waterworks he's creating.
The girl hugged him, wiping away his tears.
"I would never do that, not to you. Cecie, you have nothing to worry about."
The boy sniffed, hugging the girl back.
"I guess you're right."
He whispered.
We danced the night away
We drank too much
"Cecie, my head huuuuuuurts."
The girl whined, slipping off the boy's shoulders.
