I am guided off the train and my knees feel wobbly. I got so used to the movement that it feels weird and awkward walking on solid ground. Not only that, but it seems like there are at least a thousand people roaring and cheering. Next to me is Danielle. She doesn't seem to be bothered by the fact that I can't feel my legs, but her hands are over her ears. I guess the noise is a little too much for her to bear.
The peacekeeper keeps us moving. I was told not to answer any of the questions that people are screaming at us. I do my best to ignore very one and drown out the noise but it is way too overwhelming. I trip over something and fall to the ground. "Shit!" I mutter under my breathe.
I grab a metal railing and hoist myself back up. Aside from some dirt on my pants, and a bruise on my elbow, nothing appears to be scratched.
"Come on!" Danielle yells. I can barely hear her over all the noise. She grabs my arm and I wince, did she HAVE to grab it where I fell. She yanks harder this time and I follow her lead. Soon I can see nothing but a wave of people trying to get a glimpse at Danielle and I.
The peacekeeper unlocks a huge metal door and we follow him inside. He hastily shuts it to ensure that no citizens from the Capitol decide to make a guest appearance.
"Listen to me." The peacekeeper grunts. Immediately, I begin to pay attention. This does not seem like the guy who would repeat directions. "Once we get inside, you will go directly to the second floor. Once you are there, you will be escorted to your room. You are not to leave unless given permission. If you need something, there will always be an Avox at hand. Do you understand?"
"Yes sir." Danielle and I both state in union. We go through a set of wooden doors smaller then the previous metal doors. There is a large elevator, I head over there assuming that is how I will get to the second floor. Danielle trails behind me, also slightly unsure of what to do.
There are 13 buttons. All but one are labeled with the numbers 1-12. I wonder what the 13th button is or was for. I tap on the 2nd button and it illuminates with light. The elevator lurches and I feel it rising. The floors must be huge because we have been rising for a good minute now.
Danielle's head is pressed against the giant glass window admiring the capital garden. From what I can see, it has just about every color of rosé that exists. Although, there is one strange patch of roses different from the rest. The are all pure white.
Finally after 3 or 4 minutes, we arrive at our floor. There is a redheaded Avox, waiting upon our arrival. She beckons for us and we follow. She motions at me then points towards a green door. Then she makes a motion towards Danielle and points out an orange door. I'm assuming the room with the green door is mine and the room with the orange door is Danielle's, obviously.
"I will see you later." Danielle says with a wave
I give Danielle a quick wave and a nod. I open the door to my room and all I see is darkness. My hand grazes across the nearest wall and I flip what seems to be a light switch. All of the lights burst on and I shield my eyes with the backs of my hand. "What the HELL?!" I scream. I didn't expect the lighting to be this bright.
I slowly remove my hand. Now that I wasn't surprised, I realized that it is not that bad. I make my way over to what looks like the living room. Although, I am keeping my eyes squinted just encase something decides to surprise me again.
Suddenly, I hear rapid knocking on the door. I sprint over and unlock the metallic green door, only to see Danielle there with a worried look on her face.
"What happened I heard you scream."
"Nothing, just some bright lights that's all."
"Oh ok." She replies. Her tone much smoother then before. "Well I'm gonna go grab some dinner. Want to join me?"
Aww, does little Dani have a crush? I decided to play hard to get. "No thanks I was going to explore."
"But remember that rude guy in the white uniform, told us not to go anywhere?"
"Screw him. I am bored." I snap back.
"Whatever have fun by yourself." She retorts. I turn and begin walking. After a few steps, I hear the door slam in frustration. Serves her right. I'm not having a relationship with the enemy. In just a few days, may I remind Danielle, that we are going to be at each others throats in a vicious fight for survival.
"Screw her and the peacekeeper." I mutter under my breathe before heading for the elevator doors.
