In the flashback, she's going to refer to them by their names, not by how she first saw them. If you would like to know what her first impression of them was, or forgot what it was, please refer to the first chapter. Also, if you wonder if this chapter mostly consists of them playing 20 questions, yes it does, but it reveals more about Violet and how I think Mick really was.
Jerome had just put me on the couch with Nina and Fabian when Mick, Mara, and Alfie walked in. "Violet, this is Mick, Mara, and Alfie. Guys, this is the new girl to Anubis, Violet. She managed to hurt herself coming down the stairs not too long ago." Jerome said. I rolled my eyes and whacked him upside the head with one of the couch cushions. I hit my target, which caused Alfie, Patricia, Fabian, and Mick to all burst out laughing. I noticed Nina was missing, but when I asked Fabian about it through eye contact, he had no idea.
I sat and got to know Mick a bit more by playing 20 questions. "So, what do you think about most often?" Mick asked. I honestly was not expecting that to be his first question, but I answered it anyways. "The thing I think about most often is the safety of myself and my sister. My parents weren't the best parents, which is why I ran away, unfortunately leaving her behind. I worry most about her because she is so young." I said. He looked at me in shock. I guess he didn't expect me to go that into detail. "My turn. What do you wish more people understood about you?" I asked. He paused for a minute, trying to figure out which one was more prominent. "I wish that more people understood that I'm not just a guy who's into sports. I do have a side that most people don't see because they don't take the time to really get to know me like this. That there's more to me than just exercise and playing sports." he said. Wow. I did not know that he was mainly known as the athlete. "This one doesn't count, but... Do people really only see you as the athlete?" I said. "Yeah. My turn. If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?" Mick replied. "The one change I'd make to the world would have to be to make people see that there's more to life than just hurting others. That hurting your children, spouses, partners, what have you, is what's going to one day break them to the point of suicide." I replied. He gave me a small sad smile. "My turn. If you could go back five years in life, what advice would you give your past self?" I asked. "Good one. I would tell my past self not to give up on anything, despite how hard it may seem to be. Same question to you." he said. "I would tell my past self not to allow Chisisi to be left behind when I escape from that hell and that no matter what life throws at you, things will eventually correct themselves in the end." I said. "Well. Bloody hell." he said. I chuckled. "My turn. Has anyone ever walked in on you naked? And no, family does not count. They've been seeing you naked since you were born." I said. He laughed. "Thankfully, no. I would never be able to show my face in public again." he said. I chuckled. "My turn. What would your perfect bedroom look like?" he asked. It was a bit trivial, but it was a good question nonetheless. "Oddly enough, I have a drawing of exactly what it would look like and how it would be created." I said. I pulled the drawing out of my bag and showed it to him. "Wow, this is very good." he commented. "Thanks. My turn. What's the most annoying question you've ever been asked?" I asked. "Easy one. 'Have you done your homework?'" he replied, asking that question like a little old lady. I laughed. "Okay, my turn. What's your life motto?" he asked. "Be careful who you trust because they may one day break it." I said without thought. It's always been my life motto. "My turn. If you could choose, would you rather watch a ten hour movie that had every detail in the book and be completely accurate, or watch a movie that is three hours long and is all wrong?" I asked. "Ten hour, hands down. If I read a book that was good enough for me to want to see the movie, then I'd want to see it accurately done!" Mick said. We kept going like that until we each had one last question. It was Mick's turn."Okay..." He trailed off. He sighed before he asked the last question.
"What was the worst thing that ever happened to you?" he asked. That's why it was so hard for him to ask. I sighed myself before answering. "The worst thing to happen to me was getting raped. When I was nine years old, I was in the tent that my parents had set up for me separate from theirs. Chisisi was only around a year old then, so she was still with mum and dad. There was a man nearby who ripped open the doorway to the tent. I was just in a nightgown, mind you. He walked closer to me as I tried to get away. He quickly advanced and grabbed me, preventing me from moving. I screamed until my throat went raw, even as he was inside me. All I thought about was getting him away from me. Mum and dad never heard me, but Chisisi did. She still remembers it, all these years later. She still remembers. He left soon after Chisisi started crying, thinking it would wake my parents. It did, thank god. If I saw the man again, I'd recognize him in a heartbeat." I said, tears streaming down my face. "I'm so sorry. I didn't know." he said, bringing me in for an embrace.
"I still have one question left." I said. He nodded. "If you could have a never-ending candle that smelled like anything you wanted, anything in the world, what would you want it to be?" I asked. He pondered upon it for a little while before finally giving me an answer. "I would want it to smell like a combination of the ocean and sawdust." he said. "Really?" I asked. "Really. My parents used to take me to the beach a lot growing up and my uncle, who passed away a few years ago, was a carpenter. I always helped him with whatever projects he'd allow me to, getting him any parts he needed, or even just sanding them." he said. I smiled sadly. "I wish I had memories like that." I said.
I know, it's probably really crappy to end it there, but I think I explained enough about her parents here to help understand things a bit better. I am open to questions, whether it's to me directly or to a character.
