Recovering and Bonding

(Well, this chapter will involve some Alexis and Jaden bonding. That, and it may involve a duel between Zane and Jaden. Looks like the epic duel between the Academy's best duellists are about to commence once again. Will Jaden lose like before, or will he finally be able to beat the one person he never won against? This will include POV's from Jaden, Alexis and Syrus)

Alexis POV

I groaned as I opened my eyes dimly, the blaring light almost blinding me when I did.

Through my barely opened eyelids, I saw that I was in the infirmary on one of its many hospital beds. The whole room was white, while the floor was all purple vinyl. When I looked down at myself, I saw that I was tucked comfortably under a single white sheet, with a soft pillow behind my head. I wore only my plain black sleeveless vest and blue skirt underneath, my feet bare. Plus, my head was bandaged with a strip of cloth, which I touched gingerly since it throbbed.

I looked to my right, and to my surprise I saw Chazz snoring his head off. Syrus was nowhere to be seen, so that meant he was okay. Crowler was on the far right bed, his arm wrapped in a tight cast, and his leg in pretty much the same condition. Next to Chazz was my brother Atticus, who was soundlessly asleep, which made me smile a little. He was always the light sleeper, and he was as quiet as a mouse.

Then to my left was the one person I was most worried about: Jaden.

He had an oxygen mask on him, and he had an IV set into his right arm. His face had several small scratches on them, and his left arm was wrapped in white clothes but other than that he looked fine. His hair was messy against the soft pillows he was sleeping on. His red jacket lay folded neatly to one side, so he was wearing only his long sleeved black top and black jeans, his shoes laying to rest on top of his jacket. His duel disk looked a wreck on the table next to him, but his deck was neatly and carefully sealed in a tight airbag.

Suddenly, I heard the infirmary doors open up and Miss Fontaine and Syrus walked in. Syrus was on crutches, since his leg was all plastered up, and his head was bandaged as well, so he must've had some mild form of concussion. He looked over in my direction and his face brightened.

"Alexis!" he said, limping over to me. "You're awake!"

I smiled weakly, my head all of a sudden aching me for no reason. "Really? You don't say," I said sarcastically.

Miss Fontaine came up to me, checking my head temperature. "Well, its good to see that you're finally awake after being out for two days. You had some of us worried when several passing-by students saw you, Jaden and the others in a heap, right outside the Abandoned Dorm which is completely wiped out."

I felt queasy at that point. "Yeah, about that-"

"Don't worry about it for now," Miss Fontaine firmly said. "Concentrate on getting better first. We'll deal with your punishment when you do. Besides, I don't think any of you will get any severe punishments."

"I told the Chancellor what happened," Syrus explained, sitting down in the visitors chair next to my bed. "Pretty much the whole Academy heard the Abandoned Dorm explode. I woke up yesterday, and he immediately asked me what had happened since no one else seemed to be conscious. I told him everything, and he's happy to know that we've found not just Crowler but Atticus as well."

I smiled happily at the mention of that. "I'm just glad that those two are okay." Then I frowned over to Jaden's bed. "But I'm guessing that Jaden isn't so lucky?"

Miss Fontaine looked at her clipboard, glancing at Jaden once in a while. "He's got two of his ribs fractured, but they'll recover soon. His left wrist is also fractured, so he's not gonna be duelling any time soon. That, and the fact that he had a little difficulty breathing yesterday, moments before Syrus regained consciousness."
